My doctor is fairly new to prescribing Ritalin, and although he is open to the idea of prescribing a higher dose (I'm on 100 mg now), he wants proof taht it's not dangerous. I have a very high tolerance to all medications, metabolize them fast, and abused meth regularly for about a year (long time ago), so my tolerance to Ritalin is extremely high. I now take 3x30 mg, and can take 10 mg more once a day, but I usually save up that dose, as less than 30 mg have little effect on me.

I'm not trying to get high, 30 mg doesn't make me euphoric, overfocuced etc, just calm, focused and clear-headed.

I've been googling, but can't find "evidence". Help, someone?

hello every doc in usa has a book called PDR physicians desk reference(sp) with every med,no matter how its administered to the pt. orally, im,iv,topical,or thru any opening in the human body, maybe he wants to be sure its safe for you/ just my opinion:)

Doctor's have a book like that in Norway, but it's never updated- according to it, 60 mg is the max dose for adults.

I know he just wants me to be safe, but as far as I know, 120 mg is safe, unless I get high blood pressure or something. I'm tolerating 100 mg very well, almost no side effects, so I think my body can handle 20 mg more.

You can drink soy milk in the morning to make Ritalin metabolize slower. So you need less.

I would ask what other (adjunctive) things you can do to help your ADD. e.g. exercise, meditation, etc.

'pills don't fix everything'.

And drugs like ritalin do affect the cardiovascular system (think stroke and heart attack risk if you BP goes too high; your doc probably doen't want the legal liability if you 'stroke out' on 100mg+, dude).

It might be a plan to do other investigations into your fatigue and distraction too. e.g. "Do you possibly have a Sleep Disorder", etc?

For other ideas, Have you read driven to distraction or delivered from distraction?

I take 320mg during the day. 80mg 4x. Ive worked with my doctor extensivley to find the best dose for me. I was at 60mg 5x a day for the longest time and at my last appointment we decided to go to 80mg 4x. I too metabolize (sp) quite fast. The positive attributes only work for 2-2.5 hours and it now seems that the 80mg at a time makes it last a little longer. I will try the soy milk thing becuase I hate taking so many pills. I tried the LA but it gave me vertigo and respiratory issues.

I am in Australia and they really don't seem open to prescribing over 60mg a day. This seems to be the number that is given by all the main authorities and is also the max recommended dose by the manufacturer.

Does anyone know of any studies that have looked at risks and efficacy at doses > 60mg/day - or any credible sources that explain when higher doses might be recommended?
