so i havn't really taken adderall for a while. but while i was taking it after a month or so of taking it i started smelling a really weird smell...sorta freaked me out. it reminded me of blood (metallic) or the smell of pennies
(which random fact is actually the smell of humans...we touch them so much that pennies gain human smell...humans totally have a smell too, think about it, dogs have a smell why wouldnt we?)
anyone else notice anything like this?

I never got the smell from Addy alone, but got it when I started on Wellbutrin (combined with the Addy). I thought it was due to taking two stims and over activating the flight and fight mechanism. Once I was on both - my sense of smell increased trifold, also things got brighter and my hearing became very accute. There are pros and cons for this experience (my pooch - became a lot more smelly, but I appreciated the smell of cooking more):). Now that I've been on both for a while - I have become accustomed and do not notice. Are you also taking another stim (i.e., sudafed, coffee, ephedra) concurrent? This may be similar to the above combo. Or, pehaps your focus has improved to the point that you are now noticing what was in the background before.

:)wow thanks double Mooch! I stopped taking adderall last week, one of my side effects was feeling like I had a mouthful of pennies! Everything tasted awful, all I could drink was diet coke.
Now I know its going on with somebody else
Sorry you're experiencing that
:)love the forums
wow that is crazy weird yet logical...say WHAT!? lol
glad i'm not alone
went off of addy about half a year ago. im a dex kid now
no i wasn't taking any other stims at the time. however, i have my moms nose which is insanely sensitive. ex: i had a party at our house ONCE and it was decently cleaned up, little to no proof of it. now imagine a mom bloodhound hybrid mix LITERALLY sniffing from one room to the next and saying with perfect accuracy what happened...i never had a party again

Amphetamines can cause hallucinations. Maybe it was a mild one? Or maybe it just altered your brain chemistry so much that the smell of human, which was formerly unsmellable, became unfamiliar to you and therefore of note.
I smelled cucumber really intensely on the second day. Kinda cool.

......
bad smell = hallucination?
some people...
The RX sheet for Adderall lists bad taste (which would also cause bad smell, this happens to me too) as one of the common side effects for adults.

On an interesting note, a heightened sense of smell is sometimes seen in ADHD (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18814862?ordinalpos=1&itool=EntrezSystem2.PEntrez.Pubmed.Pubmed_ResultsP anel.Pubmed_DefaultReportPanel.Pubmed_RVDocSum). Check out a recent study on this here (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18814862?ordinalpos=1&itool=EntrezSystem2.PEntrez.Pubmed.Pubmed_ResultsP anel.Pubmed_DefaultReportPanel.Pubmed_RVDocSum). However, it said that the smell sensitivity usually decreased with medication treatment. Here (http://www.addforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=57984) is a related earlier discussion thread on a similar topic.
One quick question... do you normally take antacids or laxatives? Reason being, both often contain high levels of magnesium. Stimulant medications actually can increase magnesium levels in the blood in some cases. I'm not sure about other metals, but I wonder if the weird smell might be excessive magnesium levels in your system arising from the common ADHD stimulant medication.
As far as treating this, I'm not sure, but if you do have abnormally high levels of some type of metal, you might want to try some sort of chelation treatment. Chelation is the process of binding to and carrying away metals, often with nitrogen or sulfur-based compounds. Although there are way too many chelation treatment products on the market that claim to help treat disorders such as ADHD, plain garlic is often effective (the sulfur compounds in garlic that give its pungent smell are some of the very things that help remove unwanted metals from your system). I might try boosting garlic in your diet for a few days to a week and see if anything changes. Please, let us all know!
nope no supplements probably just smelling human...
so when you smelled cucumber was it actually a cucumber or the fake synthesized cucumber smell?
i really hope you just randomely smelled real cucumbers which ive never noticed a smell to. makes me giggle lol

I belive it's actually a known side effect, but don't quote me! I get the same thing though.
