Hi All,
I was recently disgnosed with inattentive ADD, and put on 10 mg of Adderall XR. I slowly titrated up to 30 mg. When I felt that I needed 40 mg, I got neverous over the increase and asked my GP to switch me to Concerta. IT WAS HORRIBLE!!!! I felt like a zombie, was super tired, and irritable :( I know that it takes a week or 2 for one to acclimate to Concerta, but I suppose I was spoiled by the instant benefit of the adderall. I switched myself back to the adderall xr today, and am about to call my dr now.
How quickly did you titrate up your dose?? Thanks in advance!

Hello and welcome!
I am inattentive ADD also. I started on Ritalin and I felt like a zombie too. I tried Concerta and I couldn't tell anything! My doctor wouldn't listen to me though. He said that all his other patients do well with Ritalin so that's what I was getting. He also told me that Ritalin and Adderall are basically the same thing.
So I found a new doctor and she started me on Adderall IR. I saw her last week on the 18th and we started with 10 mg 2x's a day. I called her office on Friday to let them know that I couldn't tell a difference at all. She was out of the office, but she called her nurse to tell me to go to 20mgs 2x's a day.
I called her again yesterday to let her know that the 20mgs were working very well, but wearing off around 4pm. I have 3 kids 10 and under so I can't be crashing right before I get home!
So she rewrote my script for 20mg tablets 3x's a day. So I guess she titrated me up pretty fast. I think it depends on the person and the doctor. Only you know how you feel and what works for you.
The Adderall is way better than the Ritalin for me.
Good luck and let us know how you're doing. Everyone on here is super helpful!

I am on Adderall XR as well. The doctor wanted me to take 10mg/day for a few days, and then go up to 20mg if needed. Honestly, I only did the 10mg for one day, and went to 20mg the next day. The actual script was written for 1-3/day, so I'm assuming I can go up to 30mg if I need to. I'm not seeing great things so far with the 20mg, but I think I'll wait at least another week before I try 30mg.

I'm on Vyvanse but I started out at 70 mg. of Vyvanse and then went up to 140 mg. the following week. I was fine with that but usually the increase is lower than that, maybe going to 100 mg. first.
If you slowly increase the dosage, there is less likelihood that you will have as many problems with side effects.
My husband takes 60 mg. of Adderall and my Vyvanse dose is equivalent to 60 mg. of Adderall. The range for an Adderall dosage is .5mg. to 1 mg. per kilogram of weight. So take your weight in pounds and divide by 2.2 to get the kilograms. Your range would be one-half of that number up to a high of that number. So if you weighed 150 lbs., the dosage range for Adderall would be between 34 and 68 mg. You start at the lower end and titrate up until you achieve maximum benefit without serious side effect issues.

My doctor gave me the 5mg IR with the general instruction that I could take up to 6 a day. The first day I took 2.5 mg four times, but that wasn't very effective so I went the next day to 5 mg four times a day, which was okay, and then went to 7.5 mg four times a day within a week, which gave me the maximum prescribed dose of 30 mg/day.
I've also tried, on the weekends, since those tend to be shorter days for me, 10 mg three times a day. I think 10 mg is probably a better dose for me, but that won't cover my full days during the week, and I won't go over the prescribed dose without talking to the doc first. If it had been okay, I probably would have gone to 40 mg about six weeks after starting.
So basically, I titrated up from 10 mg to 30 mg within a week, which is probably faster than some would recommend, but I never really got any of the negative side effects others talk about (for me, the decreased appetite is a big positive).
