I have been seeing my psych Doctor for months now and was prescribed Adderall IR 20mgs for the first month. I was crashing at work by 1pm.
Last time I visited I told her what was going on and she added another 10mgs. This is still not getting me through to lets say 6/7pm.
I am experiencing crash symptoms by 5pm and end up sleeping for at least two hrs and then getting back up and resuming my evening.
Question/concern: Next week is my third visit since starting adderall and I want to tell her I probably need a higher dosage, and to be honest 30mgs is on the low end or average scale. But I am worried she will start to think i am abusing addies or will continue to asked to be upped.
Maybe this is just my anxiety, but I'm unsure of how to approach the subject again.
How have you all broached this subject (besides the obvious)
Thanks for reading.

Please understand..you understanding your own symptoms is much more important than worrying if she will think you are a "seeker". The patient knows their symptoms better than any MD, they are their own best analysis!
The process of finding the exact dose, can often take 6 months or more. your MD should know this, and expect you to be honest about needing the increase. If you have a good relationship with them, there should be no worry. It sounds like you truly need the dose increase, and I am sure there will be no problem.
My daughter started out at 10 mg. and now takes 40, she is 14 and has expressed its not enough...so NO WORRIES! Just explain the symptoms...it will be fine.

Here's the deal: forget about asking for a higher dosage.
Instead, simply be specific and detailed and clear and persuasive about the effect the current dosage is having on you. If you report what's going on in detail (the doctor hears that your coverage isn't as good as you'd like), the doctor will automatically consider adjusting your dosage. That's the way it is with my shrink.
Point two, there is nothing wrong at all with going the other route and suggesting, "what do you think of me going up to a higher dose?"
If you say this right away, any good doctor will immediately reply, "what's going on that you think you need a higher dosage?" And then you get to answer number one, of describing your symptoms.
By the way, many people have to keep upping their dosages several times, three and four times. And you have to go back for a new script in a month. So it's not like you can get a year's script out of them and go abuse it. He has to see you in a month for a new script.
There's nothing to worry about--unless you are indeed abusing the drugs. But I assume you simply have some inappropriate "guilt" and insecurity. Don't worry. You're not doing anything remotely wrong.

Don't be nervous. Tell the dr. exactly what time you take the dose in the am, when it wears off, and how effective the med is for you. Be objective and ask the dr what they think of your situation.
Have you considered Adderall XR? Personally I prefer it to IR because the XR has a longer, less intense come up and come down. I need coverage for 11-12 hours every day and find that 1 XR dose before breakfast and lunch is the perfect dose schedule (for me).
You shouldn't be crashing in the middle of the day - especially when you need coverage. That's a poor a way to manage ADHD. Your dr should know that and help you out.
Good Luck
