Hey everyone,
I'm new here/newly diagnosed with ADHD inattentive type.
Im 22 years old and in university.
I was put on Ritalin IR; started of at 10mg twice a day and continued up to 60mg twice a day with no positive results, only negative side effects.
I was switched to Adderall XR starting at 30mg/day. Still, I've experienced nothing.
Im starting to get really frustrated and I feel like there's no hope. People are typing away in class while I'm daydreaming about god-knows-what.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what I should do? Dr. says to keep upping dosage... Gonna go up to 60mg/day and see what happens, but Im really not to hopeful....
Make sure you dont take the adderall with acidic food/drink since that can reduce absorbtion.
its odd that you dont feel any change @ 30mg/day of adderall. You might want to do a quick mental check of the basics like: diet, sleep, mood etc...
make sure your diet is well balanced. Eggs contain all the necessary amino acids your body needs etc..
Sleep is key 6-8 hours a night.
Depression and or anxiety can hurt productivity.
Fatigue is another general area which reduces productivity.
I hope your feeling some improvement.

that sucks...
part of being adhd is knowinging exactly what you described . It sucks , that's how I feel when my meds wear off. You should just make sure your sleeping and eating well as bobc stated and then re-evaluate the situation. If anything at all drink some caffeine so atleast your not in outer space.

Thanks for the advice!
My Dr. and I have been playing around with dosages and I went up to 50mg/day of the Adderall XR. I really think I'm seeing a difference. I'm feeling pretty good now.
With the Ritalin IR, I was at 50mg with no positive side effects, only stomach pains/tight chest/nausea.
With the 50mg of Adderall XR, I'm not getting any negative side effects (getting one positive aka weight loss, woohoo [jk])
I even went up to 60mg Adderall XR, but didn't really feel any difference compared to the 50mg... Its so hard to tell (with any dose of either med) if I'm feeling the effects...
I'm able to focus and concentrate for long periods of time which is new,but I'm still really distractible and I still find it hard to get going when I know I have a lot to do.
Also, I feel like the Adderall is making me slower than I usually am in terms of getting through material (rewriting notes/studying/doing readings for class/typing class notes in class). Or maybe its just because Im paying more attention to detail than usual.... ugh.. so frustrating... so subjective...
There is a bell curve between stimulants and productivity.
Too little and i'm sluggish vs too much and I get stuck on details.
