I was recently diagnosed with ADHD and was put on 30mg of adderall. I work out regularly and have been trying to lose 15-20lbs for quite sometime now. I have also heard a lot of people talk about how they lose weight on adderall so I'm hoping i'll have that side effect as well cause I could benefit from that. I have been taking Alli and was wodering if it was ok. I am scared that I may be countering the effect of the Adderall.
Has anyone else tried this? What have been your experinces?

I have no clue if they would be safe together. I'd just venture to say that you should lose some weight with the Adderall alone. Perhaps more than you might with the Alli (I don't know). If it were me.... I'd prolly not take the chance on taking them together. That's just my opinion though.

well i was wondering how adderall makes people lose weight. is it from the appetite suppression and not eating?

Yes, and in some cases people become a lot more active, so that helps burn extra calories.

I have heard HORRIBLE things about Alli. If I were you I'd stop taking it now (assuming that the package info says it's okay to stop suddenly - otherwise follow what they say), and just let the Adderall do its thing.

I have been taking Adderall 40mg a day for about 7 monthes and have lost close to 30lbs (183 to 156)without even going to the gym or dieting. it surpressed my hunger a lot more at first then it does now, but I still don't eat as much as i did before. i have also started drinking a lot more water due to dry mouth which has helped with the weight

My guess is that adderall will be more effective and safer at helping you lose weight than will the Alli. It suppresses your appetite and you'll eat less without consciously trying. If I were you, I'd skip the Alli and see if you lose weight with the adderall.

A quick check on the drug interaction checker on drugs.com did not reveal any interactions; however, according to the site, that does not necessarily mean that there isn't an interaction. I would talk to your pharmacist, they go through 6 years of schooling so they can answer questions like that.

No one has really answered your question: Adderall and Alli have no interactions.

Simply put, they effect different organ systems. Alli inhibits processes in the pancreas, and Adderall is transported to the brain.

I believe Alli prevents the absorbtion of fat in the intestine + if you eat too much fat it comes out the other end in messy/dramatic ways. It is really a negative feedback training tool to reduce dietary fat intake. Of course not absorbing the fat has some effect as well.

I found the decreased appetite + eating less effect from adderall deminished after the first month. After a month I would eat more in the evenings as the adderall wore off.

Adderall probably would be severly hindered by Alli. Considering how Alli works and the lovely results it leaves you (my wife took it before) it may actually put a serious damper on ANY extended release medication with the exception of Daytrana and Vyvanse.
Daytrana being a transdermal patch and Vyvanse which metabolizes via the liver.

No. Adderall XR crosses into the blood stream via the stomach lining where both the IR and XR halves of the dosage sit. The delayed release portion attaches itself to protein or fat in the blood, and the IR is active in the plasma or rotating itself out.

Alli (Orlistat) inhibits an enzyme from the pancreas that breaks down triglycerides..instead of the triglycerides being broken down (into fat), they're excreted through waste. Adderall doesn't even get that far in the digestive track before completely crossing over into blood. The FDA mandates documented possible drug interactions with all FDA approved drugs. There are none for Adderall XR and Alli.

I think that if you have any reservations or concerns about how any drug affects the body or interacts with any other drug, your best bet is to consult any licensed pharmacist. It's free and I'm sure they'd be happy to give you the correct information.

Not to negate or discredit anybody's advice on this forum (which truly is a blessing to know there are others who are going through the same thing), but I think a question like this is best answered by an educated professional. :)
