I have noticed I have developed some sort of rash/dryiness around my lips. I was wondering if this happened to anyone? I have been trying to heal it with polysporin. Anyone have experience with this? it is kind of embarrassing.

How long have you been taking Ritalin?
Did the rash start after you upped your dose?
What color is the rash - light red/pink or more a darker red/purple?
Or does it seem more like a blister/sore?
(if the answer is "yes" to either of these three you should be a bit concerned. at the very least keep a good watch on it.)
If it is a rash, is it anywhere else - hands or feet?
(If "yes" - you should maybe be more concerned. But if "no" - you shouldn't become unconcerned).
Are you having any other pretty strong reactions - mussel ache or joint aches?, sleep dropped off sharply?, sore throat?
This may just be transitory (or weather related). Or it could indicate an "over-sensitivity" (especially if you have other strong side effects). If its a sensitivity it may pass or it may continue (or get worse).
Generally you should know within a few days/weeks from starting. But if the dosage was low and you needed to raise it you may have brought it out as though you were just starting (the sensitivity may have been there, but you didn't notice it). So the counting of days (or a few weeks) may be more tricky. You should start counting from the time the symptoms first become noticeable (but looking back, if they were there earlier, you can be pretty sure it is an "oversensitivity").
Sounds complicated, but that's because there can be a transitory element (getting used to the drug) and because there is a subject element involved (self evaluation).
My dosage has increased. what gets rid of it? it is just my mouth area and I have noticed in my lips area. I think the weather has some sort of involvement in it, since it was not like this prior to getting colder.

Well, if its just dryness (from the medication - which acts to dehydrate us) plus exposure to wind and cold, all you can do is drink more water, protect your self (or your face) from the cold and use a high quality skin product.
Eucerine is good - don't use lotion, use the cream. That will work around your lips (on the face). The stuff does look white if its not spread so try to have enough but not too much (especially if you are going out). You can use a bit more at night (it won't mess up your pillow - but don't go overboard). Once in the AM is good and once at night.
For the lips themselves any good clear product that's made for that area is best. But something more specialized than chap stick.
But back to the original comments - try to determine if its just from "dryness" & the weather and not from a bad reaction. It may even be from a reaction but if so it should subside pretty quickly (a few days if you don't rub it). If it persists you should check in w/ your Dr.
Adverse reactions to drugs are much like an allergy - in some cases its a passing thing but in other cases it can persist (and really isn't different than an allergy). In other cases its so severe or intolerable that there is no question about stopping the med right away. But even if its less severe it may be that you are stressing your body and your body won't adjust.

I have to drink loads of water while on concerta and ritalin. My lips occasionally crack in the winter (even years before ritalin) and I've used some lip gels as needed.
Hello,
I was just diagnosed with ADD, I have been on Ritalin for a little less then one month now. I did have very very dry lips: I don’t know however, if it is do to the fact that I’m drinking water more because the meds seem to be drying my mouth and leaving a film down my throat or if my lips are dry simply due to the meds themselves:<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>

A friend of mine was just on Accutane. He told me he had the same problem. Apparently a number of medications tend to dehydrate the lips. He suggested I try « Ceralip» by Manufacturer La Roche-Posay. This is a product from <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comhttp://addforums.com/forums/ /><st1:country-region><?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = <st1:place>France</st1:place></st1:country-region> but it is available in the <st1:country-region><st1:place>US</st1:place></st1:country-region> & <st1:country-region><st1:place>Canada</st1:place></st1:country-region>. It’s not cheap however: almost 14$ cdn with taxes for a 15 ml tube. But it works wonderfully: After 2 days of careful application my lips were kissable once again. Now I’m back to using medicated lip conditioner by Blistex for «maintenance».

Hope that helps

Mine are in bad shape right now, a Blister break out. I use Abreva which normally works pretty quick for me. The problem is, as soon as I get one taken care of, another one or two pop up.
I pretty sure it's from the old Adderal that I've been opening and splitting in half to tide me over until my Ritalin comes in.

Have you noticed that so many of us on this post are from cold climates?
Ritalin is a diuretic, so it is probably just due to fluid loss. Do you feel thirsty as well? I would say that the best thing to do is to intake a lot of fluids (water mostly), and use some chapstick of sorts.
