I have taken Ritalin most of my life and now that I am not on any medication I have trouble following through with just about anything, including going to 12 step meetings. Should I get back on Ritalin and then try to follow the 12 step meetings? I seem to make excuses not to go to the meetings, and I procrastinate.
Anyone have any suggestions?

Do you see a doctor? I would suggest you talk to your doctor regarding getting back on the medication first.
Good luck!

Do you want to get to meetings? If you do there is plenty of help available. Ask your sponsor what he thinks might help.

No amount of meds would "fix" my decisions to get to meetings. I had to become willing. Without that I'm lost. Lets talk about it though if you like. I did not always feel that it was easy to get my butt to a meeting.. and I'm new to meds.. I still have things to learn here so please pipe up.

Have you read the book ADD and ADDiction? It discusses why 12 step programs like AA are hard for people with AD/HD. It also has suggestion on how to make them work for people with AD/HD.

you go dude..lol mctavish23 will get there..

Tara how about posting some of the key points that might help in a situation like this?

I haven't read the book. I struggle reading such material. I've read a bit on ADHD but not a lot. I used to over function on the "knowing" end and ended up "doing" very little. The pendulum swings.. heh

Nice Snoopy Futs!
Cheers! Ian.

Congrats, Mctavish on 16 yrs:) I celebrated 14 yrs clean/sober 2-11-04. Of all the using/drinking I did I remember feeling my best when doing cocain or speed. @ present I have more health issues than I care to keep track of but NOTHING gets in the way of my staying clean. I find alot of times I don't have the mental or physical motivation to get my foot out the door to go to a meeting so am VERY grateful for online support groups. Also a cancer survivor, among other issues. Brain is on constant rev so do alot of pc games when I have the stamina to sit for any length of time. As usual I'm off N running on tangents so will stop for now:) SusyQ
