Garbanzo Dude 12-06-08, 10:07 PM helps very much so for stress and anxiety....also curios to know about add.... opps sorry womens forum but its good anyhow RedHairedWitch 12-06-08, 11:51 PM I love yoga, it helps with excess energy and stress. I find it also helps me focous ... for a while. Its good for you too. Anything that makes you healthier is good for ADHD. I have not tried hot Yoga yet andyum 12-07-08, 12:28 AM I am a dude too and also love yoga. I started doing it before I figured out that I had ADD but I do always feel pretty focused after class. It helps to slow the mind down and is a great work out as well. The breathing exercises you learn can also be very helpful for focus during the day (when I remember to do it). Not tried the hot yoga. I work up a pretty good sweat as is. johnny s. 12-08-08, 09:23 AM yeah I started it before I was dx'ed too. Really helped me... it's burns xs energy that I used to burn in a lot less constructive ways... it help build focus & concentration. I do bikram, the hot yoga. after conquring that hot yoga, my confidence went up too because it's like if you can do that stretching & balancing in that hot room without passing out, then you can do anything. dmw202 12-17-08, 11:14 PM YES, definitely! :D I do Bikram yoga at least 4-5 times a week and it really helps calm me down and it also helps me think clearer. It takes a lot of determination and focus, so I usually walk out of class feeling rejuvinated. This feeling of calmness/rejuvination usually sticks with me for a few hours and helps me fall asleep easier. Bikram is very challenging, but I would recommend it to anyone, especially us ADDers or people with anxiety. :) sheneedstorest 12-18-08, 07:17 PM i used to do pilates when i have access to the gyms at school. i miss it a lot. i felt so relaxed afterwards and was able to sit down and study. johnny s. 12-19-08, 12:06 PM yeah, seriously, my whole life started to change when I started doing bikram. that Dr Amen guy even says that meditation increases you alpha waves or something, which is the area of the brain that we're weak in. Starting Strattera is the only thing in life that is in the same catagory for me as starting bikram, as far as moving my life in the right direction goes. 20trackedmind 12-19-08, 02:07 PM Yoga helps me a great deal. I have minor motor tics when I get very stressed and yoga, done throughout my day pretty much keeps them under controll and seems to calm my hyperactivity to the point of being able to go a day without my meds if I do not have a crazy day planned. notmADD 12-21-08, 08:26 PM I love yoga! I did anasara...i think I spelled that right...for years. I will suggest that if you are on any meds, you make sure you're not at risk for overheating. talitha 12-24-08, 02:19 PM Love Yoga!!! roseblood 01-16-09, 06:51 AM I do it too, though I can't afford classes so just use books and the Internet. And we have Wii Fit now so I should check out the yoga lesson on there soon. I mainly do it to keep fairly flexible and increase my muscle tone, as I'm a bit of a weakling, and because it feels good. I believe there's some evidence that it improves concentration and balance. A drawback with regard to ADHD is I find it hard to hold positions for much longer than five seconds because I get bored. chamaleon 01-16-09, 07:36 AM YES!!! I started Bikram last week and have been to four classes so far. Bikram yoga is the most intense yoga you can possibly do and is in 40 degrees of heat. It is tailor made for someone with ADHD in my opinion, because there are 26 postures that you have to do about four times each, and you are under direction every second from the instructor so your mind is less likely to wander. I am the clumsiest person ever with the worst spatial awareness and am finding it REALLy helpful. You do 45 mins of intense standing up yoga cardio in one spot and then 45 mins of floor exercises - and it works on every muscle, tendon and gland inside and outside the body. after 45 mins when i lay down, i experienced a clarity of mind for about ten mins i never felt before naturally, and it has improved my concentration a little bit. I think that anyone with ADHD should try this urgently - as i said there is so much variety and it is so strict and you feel fantastic afterwards. it is without question the hardest thing i have ever done in my life and i am going again tonight. Shmeepod 01-16-09, 12:52 PM I took yoga a few years ago when they offered it for free at my school. I was pretty awful at it (the instructor made me go stand next to the wall when we did the standing-on-one-foot type poses because my wobbling was distracting), but I think it helped my balance a bit. I also found that I slept better on nights when I'd had the class. I might take it up again if another convenient opportunity comes up. Azkary 01-16-09, 01:15 PM I tried yoga once and I loved the feeling. I want to start again and include it in my weekly activities but I haven't gotten around to it (really?). But I will... promise.. |
