Hi ladies

wondering if anyone else has had this experience, and how they dealt with it...

Ok so here is me, (pre diagnosis). Like most women Im not skinny but not overweight - in that 'would love to lose 5-10kg' space. You know how it is. Everytime you stare out a burger sideways you gain weight. You are not majorly overweight but never as skinny as you wish

or if you get skinny its always a major effort to stay that way.

Sooo a few months prior to my diagnosis I went on a diet and managed to diet from a large 14 (australia/nz) (I think its a us 10) down to my 'ideal' which is a 10 - 11 (6 - 7us?)

Then I went through a breakup lose more weight as a result of that (I dont eat when miserable) and as a result of counselling over that got diagnosed.

so I was as skinny as I wanted to be for once in my life, and here I am put on stimulants.

I was on ritalin for 3 weeks and changed to dexamphetamine due to side effects. The ritalin cut my appetite a lot. The dex not so much but after 3 & a bit weeks on it and a diet of absolute crap that would usually see me gain weight super fast, I am still as skinny maybe a little more. Went shopping today and some things were a 9 (sz5?us)

Anyway any other women found this when on their meds and how did you managed to eat a healthy diet rather than junk and not lose weight?

also how did you find the mind set - if you are like me you have years of automatic programming to not eat junk or feel guilty if you do.

Ironic that 6 mths ago I would have died for a licence to eat, now my sister is making comments about does she need to sendme food for xmas when did i last eat - when most of my meals this week were burgers and chips or other calorie laden stuff!

would love to hear if other women who were diagnosed as adults have experienced anything similar?

oh

and will my metabolism adjust? - ie i have this license to eat then one day after months of eating heaps i suddenly will start getting fat?

Not that I want to anyway as I dont really like eating a lot of crappy food - been staying in temp accom and my vehicle being fixed so hard to get to the supermarket and also hard to plan ahead for food storage - easier to get takeaways..... Normally I dont eat the crap I am.

I think I notice it when I eat a lot of rubbish food I dont feel healthy - but Im worried if I go to healthy food that i will lose more weight and start looking creepy

for me, the adderall works as an appitite suppressent pretty well, but on top of that, i can pay attention to when i eat and when i next need to eat. because of the adderall i've lost about 10lbs this month, i've also started exercizing (i didn't live the healthiest life style before lol). i can also think about the food i want to eat, rather then just picking up somthing random. so all in all i'm pretty happy =).

basically if you don't want to loose more weight be sure your eating the same or a few more calories then your burning (i say a few more because you can't account for all the calories you burn chewing food, laughing ect...) make sure their good calories and not mcdonalds though, there isn't any nutirents in that food (well there is, but not enough to mention) and your body will just throw it away putting it to use in fat is only one of the ways your body deals with junk food.

your metabolism will ajust to your new life style, but it may take a looong time, your metabolism took your whole life to get to where it is now, it may take that long again to get it to where you want it to be... this is my experience anyway.

eating health food will not, in itself, make you loose weight. as long as your consuming the same amount of calories as your burning, you will maintain your weight. if that is not the case you need to go to a doctor, you may have something gastrointestinal going on.

My OH eats a pretty crappy diet, okay a total crap diet and he is 6ft and 10stone, if you only eat small amounts of junk food you will loose weight.

You have to think of food 'quality', if you put crappy fuel in your car it will run crappy, put in the best you can afford!

I can eat anything, but for the sake of my skin and my health I try and eat healthily (unless on the way home from the pub, then it's fish and chips all the way!).

Ritalin and Dexamphetamine are both appetite suppressants, something I hated about ritalin as I love good food and flavours.

You most definitely should be eating healthy foods...! If for nothing else, your health. There are lots of good, healthy foods high in good fat. Avocado and peanut butter being 2 of them. I eat peanut butter on bananas and apples a lot (I actually don't care for peanut butter at all but I NEED the calories!). I eat avocados on salads and plain. So yummy...but I am still losing so much weight. I've gone from a size 8-10 to a 1 US sizes. I'm 5'8 and a size 1 on that height is pretty skinny (and I may say almost scary) looking. I'm not sure about the lbs I've lost but I know my *ss has never ever been this small! I'm also very concerned for the time my metabolism adjusts...will I quickly gain all the weight back plus some? Oh well, I guess it's worth it for the clarity of mind I get and the happiness I feel at finally getting things accomplished!

I am the same - well concerned when my metabolism adjusts Ill siddenly get fat really fast.

Not scary skinny yet but really dont want to lose any more

To the ladies advising to make sure i eat as much/ more calories than I burn.... thats the problem - I dont know what I burn any more. Id have said I definately have eaten as much/more than I burn lately. Way more, and im losing. I think the dex has sped up my calorie burning, not just affected my appetite.

Having said that sometimes u think u are eating a lot and you arent

so maybe Ill keep a food diary for a week, check the calories in what I eat and see exactly how many are going in.... if nothing else that will give me an idea how how many I am now burning on the meds.
