My son was just put on Risperdal ( for his figgiting and anger problems) and Stattera for his ADHD. Anyone kids taking these drugs together? Do you see a differnce in your child? If so how long did it take before you saw the effect ?

Risperdal is a "next generation" mood stabalizer. It works on dopamine, serotonin and noradrenaline - Strattera works on noradrenaline, mostly - but it is a "receptor antagonist" so it's mode of action is different (Strattera is a "reuptake inhibitor" ).
It is used in ADHD to treat anger as well as anxiety or nervousness, often when they are exacerbated by stimulants.
(It's primarily used for bi-polar disorder and schizophrenia)
It's safe, with few serious side effects - it might make your son sleepy, or dizzy, but even these are rare, as per the literature I've just read. I should not interact with Strattera
I don't know how long it will take to work. I would GUESS at a fairly quick response - 4 days to 2 weeks - but that's just guessing.
I am very interested in how your son does on the risperdal. I know someone who is ADHD and angry, and I'm very interested in how well this drug works for your son. Please let us know.
I've heard it's very expensive - how bad is it?
Good luck,
Greg

Well 1st I dont know the price and most likely will only pay like 2$ since my ex husband wont pay for the insurence on him and he is responable for it ... so I have him on MC plus ...

He is taking the drugs tonight .. He is at a special hospital so they can take a better evulation on him and they are going to do a ECG .

Cute cat by the way :-) thanks for the info .. I'll keep you up to date on his progress

I don't know about the combination of these two drugs, but a relative's child (with severe ADHD and anxiety) has had a very good response to Risperdal. It's being used quite a bit now for children who don't respond well to the usual stimulants.
