i have had intermittent bouts of chronic depression and anxiety for 35 yrs. i started taking prozac, wellbutrin, and klonopin in 1993. i would take it for months then feel better then taper off the antidepressant. i have been going thru this roller coaster for 15 yrs. with and without the meds. this time the prozac isn't working. i am on the real deal = prozac 90mg weekly, because its the only "real" prozac you can get because it is still on patent. ( i don't like generic antidepressants) i was taking 90mg every other day, because i used to take 80mg per day yrs. ago. however, my doctor has been prescribing other drugs to combine with prozac to try to take care of the dopamine. he started me on adderall. all i did was get sleepy. i reduced the prozac thinking the combo was the "serotonin storm" synergistic effect. i finally stopped taking prozac altogether, but the adderall then made me jittery and dizzy and stayed in my system too long. i switched to ritalin 20mg 3x a day. that is working, i stay awake and seem more alert and focused, but i am afraid of the depression returning. also, on ritalin, i seem to do well in the morning taking 40mg then 20 later in the day. however, when it wears off, i get hungry, eat dinner , then , almost like clockwork, i get real tired and have to take a nap. i was wondering if anyone who is experiencing chronic depression and some form of adhd has found a good combo of adhd med & antidepressant med that work together well and do not work against each other. thanks to anyone for your response. (by the way, back in the day, in the middle and late 90's, the classic combo for me was prozac, wellbutrin, and klonopin, but the past 2 years, i haven't been able to tolerate the wellbutrin (taken to fix the norepinehrine and dopamine deficit. i am thinking that if i can't get the ritalin to work for me, i may ask the psych to prescribe another antidepressant like lexapro & wellbutrin and klonopin. it just might be i can't tolerate prozac OR prozac simply doesn't work for me anymore)
