dependence? I think so.
I've seen women who have just given up on being able to take care of themselves and given in to unhealthy relationships as a final resort. I was given that advice myself a few times, and ALWAYS resented it. I knew that's not what I wanted and that I was capable of more. Knowledge is definitely power....
Anyone else experience that time of attitude from others?
I think it all depends on the person.
(Not a woman :))
It's all about coping styles... if one way you "cope" with adversity is to become overly dependant then that's probably one way you'll cope with the problems that AD/HD poses. And it poses some huge problems...
Other people may drink, become hyper-competent, become negative and critical... we each have a set of learned behaviors that tell us how to deal with setbacks and limitations... some are healthier than others...

Hey Tom (Not a woman):p,
That's a very astute observation!

Hmmm...I think too much dependence from either end of a relationship is bound for splitsville.
I do think that ideally, if partners could each do what they are innately best at, and tap into their own strengths (without conforming to what society "thinks" is ideal or the norm), then there might be more happily everafters...That is SOME wishful thinking, though, huh?:)
I've known several fantastically talented women in unhealthy unions, unable to market their talents (possibly, IMHO because of ADD) or be independent. It bothers me to see that.

astute most definately,
i'm sorry, but call me an echo boomer. . .but i'm telling you,
okay, i'm holding back,
from my experience, and i say this on behalf of non add'ers.
it stops being a gender issue
pls don't take this the wrong way, b/c it applies to more than one landscape.
only you can let another take advantage. . .
who did you want that authority figure to be?
was an authority figure flawed? how? How can we rise above?
i grew up in a time when an add kid was a bad scene; b/c no one knew what it was,
now, the "experts" look back on "ritalin" (et al) and pass judgement. . . .
now is the time to recognize oneself and rise above,
nothing can keep us from our goals. . . you define you!!!!
