View Full Version : Budeprion?

I just recently asked the doc for a prescription to Wellbutrin. I took it for a short time in the past. When I got my prescription it states Budeprion, which I took to be a generic form. When I looked it up, I can't find any direct statements that say its a generic form of Wellbutrin, only mentions of that med. So is this the exact same med?

Also, I have read that it has significantly raised the seizure threshold in certain dosages. It was significantly mentioned that it is more prone to this, and at one time was pulled from the market. Since I didn't take it for a very long time in the past, I am wondering about this, and would appreciate some informed feedback.

One last thing. I don't drink that often, but do like to drink beer from time to time. I don't remember how much I drank when on this before, and of course have read don't drink with this med. What is the worst I can expect? I am talking about getting drunk, or at least drinking more than a couple. In regards to the seizures, some literature I read said it would lower the seizure threshold even more.

Thanks in advance.

Daniel

It's one of the two generics, I think, that are available.

Warnings have to be read carefully. Every med has possible side effects and every psychological condition has bad side effects. The seizure problem is for dosages of 600 mg or so ... that's when the real problem kicks in. No docs give dosages that high. But if you are are epileptic, I think you are to stay away from buproprion (the drug name).

I can drink moderately on wellbutrin. I take the brand name.

The seizure risk with WB grows pretty much exponentially. At low doses the increase is very tiny. At high doses it is really significant. For 450mg it is something like 0.4% of people taking it got seizures, at 300mg I believe it was 0.1%, and above 450mg it shot up to like 4% I believe.

That's why it was taken off the market in I believe the 80's. People were just being prescribed doses that were too high.

Roger. I noticed the percentages on the pharmacy print out, but had read other things that made me wonder about the actual risk.

I am taking the same brand as you.

I only take 300 mgs.

I had a seizure about 3 weeks ago. I've never had a seizure before.

My doc cut me down to half (150 mg) a day, and then when I go back to see her next week we are stopping it altogether.

I also take Adderall.

butterfly, I'm sorry to hear you had to go through that. Does the doctor want you taking anything to take precaution against seizures while getting off? I don't know why, but I've always heard once you have one you need meds. Admittedly, I'm ignorant on the subject.
