I am new to the website but need some help. I am 38 years old and diganosed at age 36. Was on adderallXR for 1 1/2 years the last 5 months or so I started having horrible headaches late in afternoon and really moody (like I was someone else). So I quit cold turkey in Sept. 08, gained 20lbs in 2 months and the add is horrible. So at end of Dec. dr put me on Vyvanse 30mg. be on that week and half. I increased from 30mg to 60mg. the 30 made me meannnn!!! I read someone else was to so they increased and did fine. 60mg is working fine. But here is the issue the adderall was costing me $25 a month(with ins.) but vyvanse is a non preferred and $100. I have read Dexedrine is very similar and much cheaper. Does anyone know what strength and which one is similar so I can just ask my dr to prescibe it. Is dexedrine IR the one? Any suggestions appreciated!!

I got bad headaches on Ritalin and Wellbutrin. Try Dexedrine if you can. (My personal opinion.)

Dexedrine is VERY VERY mild.

I've been wanting to try vyvanse since it's basically extended release dexedrine. But the thing I know is that I don't like adderall! It also doesn't work very well for me at all. I've found that my routine of 20 LA AM (8-9 am) - 20 LA (noon -1) and maybe 10 IR PM (around 6) works quite nicely for me. Although it is annoying that I have to remember to bring my pills w/ me, it's nice to have a lot of flexibility. Well, maybe my doc gives me tooo much flexibility. Basically i can do whatever I want as long as I don't go over 60mg a day.

Anyway, that was me trying to say that I'd give dexedrine a chance, especially because its WAY cheaper than 100 dollars a month. I'd assume anyway, since you can get generic.

Amen! The really sad part is that I'm a fourth generation teacher.

I'm new to this site. I really don't like taking vyvanse (70 mg). I think it's making me depressed. I'd like to switch to something else and am curious to know what you think of the dexedrine if you try it? I've taken adderall before and I build up a tolerance so quickly. I think I'd like to try something that's IR. Any advice would be appreciated.

I have been taking dexedrine for three years. Prior to dexedrine, I had taken adderall which caused made me feel moody when it was wearing off. I have not had this reaction with dexedrine. It has been smoother for me. I am on the extended release form.
