:confused:I was recently diagnosed with ADHD and my dr. started me on Adderall 10 mg. Well, for the first 3-4 hours I feel quite motivated and am functioning at top speed and thinking clearly and getting things done. After that I start feeling a little down, and gittery, it could even be called restless...nervous in some ways with a little tightening in my chest even. Don't quite know what is going on here, but could use some advice from some old timers who are already conditioned to these drugs, as I need to know where to go from here. Thanks.

Welcome to the forum,

Just curious, are you taking Adderall XR? If your not, you should possibly look into it. I felt like I had the same problem as yours when I was on Ritalin. As soon as I took it, I felt great, but as time lapsed I felt anxious, sometimes depressed. I changed over to Adderal XR and feel great. 10mg's seems like a light dose. I'm no expert my any means, but is it possible that drug is wearing off?

I'm taking just Adderall IR. I was thinking I probably just needed something that lasted longer. I tried adding a second dose (dr. said it was ok if it was wearing off) thinking that would help with the anxiety but that was definitely not the way to go as it just made things worse. My nervous system may just not be able to accept the stimulant. Don't know.

I tried Adderall once. I don't know if I gave it a fair chance, but I didn't notice any difference between that and dexedrine.

Judy - you might try lowering the dose. 5 mg will last pretty much the same amount of time, but it will have a more subtle effect, and you may not have as much of a problem as it wears off.

I'm on the IR and take four doses a day (usually 7.5). I time them so that it's only at the very end of my day that they start to wear off in any noticeable way.

Adderall is very powerful. Dexedrine is very mild.

There is a short acting and a long acting Dexedrine.

It doesn't get much press b/c it is not under PATENT any longer, so there is not much money to be made from Dexedrine now.

That means there is no reason for a drug companies to spend money to PROMOTE it to the DOCTORS any more.

Perhaps the lack of Drug Company Reps means it is forgotten about?

The Concerta, Vyanase and Adderall seem heaviest 'promoted' to Doctors Offices, these days.

Talk to your Doctor?

So QueensU Girl, do you think I should maybe switch to dexedrine? If so, what do you thing would work best the short acting or the long acting and what MG. to start with. I'd really just like to have the clarity without so many side effects; otherwise I just won't be able to take the stimulant at all.
