I am on ritalin 20 mg 3 times a day and am wondering if maybe I need an increase as sometimes I feel like it is not doing the best for me.

How much are you on and/or what is the maximum dose that a doc can give? Thanks.

:) how long have you been taking that dose? do you take any other meds?

Ive been on meds for over 14yrs, mostly ritalin, right now my dose is 20mg IR x4

next time you go for a med check, ask your doc and tell him your concerns, he knows you best, be honest tell him it seems ineffective he'll know whats best for you:)

I take 10-15 about 3-4 times a day but I try not to take it one the weekends, unless I'm really starting to lose it. I find that a break in the meds makes a positive difference over taking it constantly.

All of it.

Okay, so I only take 54mg of Concerta... I don't know how that translates to Ritalin, though.

Thanks. I don't always take it all the time as ordered, as I want to give myself a break but miss the mood elevation and energy. Anyway, I'll ask the doc.

I am not on any other meds right now. No antidepressants ever helped my depression at all. The ritalin seems to do it all but lacks some of the effect sometimes.

Thanks.

100mg is your max I beleive, wouldn't you be better on a controlled release, I'd never remember to take tablets 3 times a day

I will ask him for that. I don't always take it 3 times a day. sometimes I just take it all at once or just take more when I feel it wearing off.

However, it doesn't seem to be working sometimes no matter how much I take.

I wonder if you are jacking your system up by not taking it consistently. I take 40mg x 2, first thing in the morning and then at lunch time. As an ADHD teacher, I sometimes get distracted (duh!) and forget my lunchtime meds. By three o'clock, if I forgot to take my meds, I am living la vida loca and I take them then. But I try to be really consistent with remembering them. I've also heard from parents who have ADD/ADHD children that they notice a difference in them as well.

Anyway, just a thought. :)

Why don't you guys try Concerta, Adderall XR, or Vyvanse? You won't have to worry about remembering another dose.

That was the first medication I tried. I titrated up to 120mg/day by one week, and felt more from a half a cup of coffee. I swear, I could go to sleep less than an hour after dosing. I told my doc if this was my only choice i'd go back to drinking coffee!! lol. Generic ritalin IR that is.

Edit: I've had much better results with dexedrine (dextroamphetamine), and adderall. If you haven't tried it, I would suggest generic dexedrine to bring up with your doc as a possible alternate option.

My doc said the maximum standard dose is 60 mg a day, and is not unheard of, and sometimes people just need more depending on their metabolism.

yeah, my doc said max for titration was UP to 40mg per dose, but to start at 10mg IR.

10mg per dose, 4-5 times per day, every 2hrs.

I've only been taking 5 mg 2-3 times a day since November. I find that it lasts me around 6 hours.

I guess I'm a lightweight :)

You're lucky (when it comes to medication costs and higher dosage "stimulant sneers" by pharmacists) :D
