I took Adderall XR 20 mg a day from June 2007 to March 2008. I started Adderall again approx 2 weeks ago. I am on 20 mg again and feel nothing. I am wondering if its possible that my body has built up a tolerance because I was on Adderall before? I remember when I first took Adderall back in 07 I was up 20 hours a day, not eating, etc. Now that I'm on it again I feel absolutely no side effects. Before I tried Adderall again I was on 80mg of Strattera for 30 days and could not keep my eyes open. I felt like a zombie. Now that I am on Adderall I feel unhappy, distracted, you know ADDish.. similar to how I feel when I'm on no medication at all. SO, is tolerance possible? Should I increase my dose? I have no insurance right now so I'm just winging it with a family friend who is a doctor. Any suggestions? Tips? etc... THANKS!

I am unsure of what you are expecting from the medications I find this confusing

Wow absolutely no side effects are why I still take it - I don't want a medication that is going to keep me up for 20 hours - I want a medications that allows me to foreground and back ground stimuli and enables me to know I am being distracted when I am being distracted - not 30 minutes after I have wondered off from what ever I was doing

What I mean by no side effects it that I feel absolutely nothing like I did when I first took it. I still feel blah, unable to focus, etc. I feel like I'm not taking anything at all. So feeling nothing = no improvement with my ADD. I'd like to feel like its actually doing something for me. Make sense now? I don't mean that I want to feel the adverse side effects, I just want to feel something.

this same thing happened to me--at first it worked magically and now nothing. i feel all hopeless and frustrated. and i crave coffee constantly again because it's not working. i can't seem to get anything done, although i am a secretary, which is the exact wrong job for adhd, lol!

I'd say this is a classic example of when a dosage increase or switch to instant release at the same dosage is recommended.

You could also be seeing some effects as a result of the Strattera (originally seen to be a new anti-depressant - norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor). The pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics of Atomoxetine play a role in how your Adderall is working. Atomoxetine takes up to 3-4 weeks to start working. Its because your brain has to adjust neuroreceptors to the drug, and the same thing but in reverse when there is an absence of the drug after taking it for 3-4 weeks+. You should wait about 2-3 weeks on taking the Adderall (save you some money too), then restart the 20mg XR a day. You'll probably see a lot more effectiveness from the same dosage.

Consider what I said about the Strattera before you look into the dosage increase because you may wind up with taking more, costing more, but not getting any added benefit as your brain is still readjusting your neuroreceptors to the absence of the Atomoxetine (Strattera).

Hope that helps.
