(ADDERALL) I have an excellent psychiatrist and is in the top 100 list of US doctors in addiction. I am currently on Suboxone maintenance for 3 years and after looking at my symptoms (cannot stay home for more than 3 hours without going crazy, always walking 10 steps ahead of everyone, talking fast, confusion at times, etc.) I am convinced I have ALWAYS had a fairly bad case of ADD. I was the class clown etc. as well. My doc did agree awhile back that I did have ADD and gave me Welbutrin which was worthless.
So far the treatment for my "speediness" has been Valium and Xanax XR. I want to dump the Valium and get on Adderall. I do not want to blow the opportunity when I see the doc and suggest it.
I could really use some help in terms of getting the doc to write up a script so I can at least try it. Really could use some help here!

I suggest that you do not suggest that he write a script for a specific medication. What I would say is that you feel the Wellbutrin in not managing your symptoms effectively. Are there any other medications that might be more effective?

Go to your psychiatrist and ask about getting your ADHD treated. Mention that the Wellbutrin didn't do much to help with your symptoms and you want to try a new medication if possible. More than likely you will be prescribed a stimulant whether it's amphetamine based or methylphenidate. If it's not a stimulant it'll probably be strattera, and I guess it works for some people but I had no symptom change from it. I wouldn't go in directly and ask for Adderall however, they might be suspicious about it; but Adderall is probably the most commonly prescribed medication they give out to treat ADHD now days.

Be honest. I worry about abuse/addition, and I tell my docs about it. Valium isn't as bad as Xanax XR (which isn't as bad as Xanax), but it is pretty easy to get physically dependent on it. In my experience, when used as prescribed, benzos cause dependence much more easily than ADD stims, though my experience with benzos is quite limited. Of course things might be different if you abuse the meds.
Be willing to try Strattera or other non-stim meds. You might even suggest such a med, but only do it honestly. Have an open mind. I would much prefer something like Strattera than a stimulant. Think about it; it would make life so much easier. Easy refills, no monthly hassles, much less danger of dependence, etc.
One note: be careful of seizures when quitting the benzos, especially if you start a stim or anti-depressant.

I was on 6 different anti depressants, one being klonopin, for anxiety. NONE of them worked, except for klonopin but they did not want me to take klonopin all the time.
My psychologist suggested that maybe my anxiety is stemming from ADHD. The first psychiatrist I saw put me on yet another anti depressant, convinced that my inattention is caused from my anxiety and kind of put the ADHD idea on the back burner. I know for certain I am ADHD so I started seeing a different psychiatrist who agrees with me, and put me on a stimulant at first. He said though that if my anxiety is still bad after I've been on stimulants for a while, that we should try Wellbutrin or Effexor because they are anti depressants (SSNRIs) that work for ADHD symptoms. However, I've been on Effexor and I hated it.
Definitely be honest. Your doctor should not worry about abuse potential for adderall because valium and xanax have high abuse potential also. Maybe ask your doctor if there are different medications you can try for ADD. I got prescribed adderall because I said that I wanted a medication I didn't have to be on every day, or that lasted a long time because I was worried about side effects (I'm sensitive :) )
When I first started taking stims tho, I felt like the same as if I took a klonopin. After two weeks though, instead of feeling just drowsy and dreamy, I felt calm and focused.

If you do get on adderall would you still be able to take suboxone?
