View Full Version : Having Problems (weight loss, no effect)
Dmitriy 02-04-09, 07:24 PM About 2 months ago I started the Aderall treatment in hopes of fixing my ADD, but so far I have had negative results. Although the medication worked at first, I began to notice that the effect was wearing off. It worked for the entire day at first, then less and less, and now I don't feel any effect at all. I started on 20mg extended release, then I switched over to 30mg. Neither one lasted for more than a few weeks. I'm also suffering a weight-loss problem now from taking the medication. Instant release isnt much of an option since that would have to be taken at school, and things would just get complicated. I am 18 years old, 5'11, and weigh 129 pounds.
So, does anyone know a good alternative medication that doesn't carry as much of a risk of weight-loss?

129lbs?!? YIKES. I'm 5'11" and 152 lbs. and I take a lot of grief from family and friends for being too thin. I don't have any recommendation for other medication.
Just my humble opinion, but, I'd figure out how to put on some weight.
How are you determining that you're not benefiting from Adderall?
somuchbetter 02-04-09, 08:40 PM Yeah I have to agree that weight loss is really, really bad... you are just going to have to make yourself eat. I'm 5'3" petite girl at 110 pounds and i can fit into youth clothes...
But I have the same problem. I have been taking 20 mg of IR for two weeks now and its like I haven't taken anything at all..
I don't have any recommendations either, most stims will promote weight loss that I know of...
hannielaggie 02-04-09, 09:04 PM I suggest that you bring up this issue with your pdoc. What negative results are you experiencing? What effects are wearing off? Maybe you need to take Adderall XR 30 mg twice a day instead of once a day. The weight loss will diminish after a few months. It will go away. Re-adjust your diet. You do realize that it takes will-power plus the medication in order for you to feel accurate results. There's also a possibility that you may have some other underlying factor (bipolar disorder, anxiety disorder, etc...). Talk with your pdoc to see what might be going on.

Bump up your calories to compensate for the weight loss.
Dmitriy 02-08-09, 02:49 PM Well you guys are all right. My main concern should just be to compensate for the weight problem with a good diet. That's exactly what I'm now doing. That however does not change the fact that the pills aren't having any more effect, and any more than 30mg a day is risk for addiction. I think I'm going to try and take this medicine called attend. It's a non-stimulant herbal alternative to aderall, and I've heard that it actually works really well. Does anyone have an objection to this? I mean does it really work to replace aderall or what?

Adderall = Stimulant. Attend = Non-Stimulant... Apples and oranges here. It's also homeopathic, which means they can make up claims so long as these claims are found in a homeopathic book.
