So i'm coming to the end of my 2nd month of being on 20mg of Adderall XR everyday and I have a couple of questions that I would appreciate if any of you could help answer :)

After taking the 20mg's of Adderall XR for awhile im feeling that the effects arent quite the same as they were when I first started taking. The side effects that I would experience (i.e.: Libido loss, Irritability, etc) when I first took have gone away after my body adapated to the medication being in my system. But I feel like my body has also built up a tolerance to this medication and it's not quite as effective as it once was. Should I ask my psychiatrist about the possibility of a higher dosage? Would switching it to 30mg's make it more effective? Does anybody else feel like their tolerance builds up fast?

Also, i've also noticed that after taking Adderall for quite some time i've developed a lingering mild sore throat. There aren't any sores visible and how sore it is can fluctuate but it's never been terribly painful. Ofcourse when I do experience a dry mouth it is worth. Is this a severe side effect from taking Amphetamine based stimulants? I can deal with it but I was wondering if it's something serious that should be taken care of.

If anyone has any information i'd appreciate any input.

Firstly, make sure you're self-assessing your response to Adderall objectively. Ask people who know you to see if you've improved. That said, you're just starting out so you may need a dosage increase (as it takes a little while to settle on the right dose).

Secondly, your sore throat is probably from the Adderall drying your mouth out: dry mouth is a common side-effect from stimulant medication. Try increasing fluid intake or chewing gum to mouth moist.

Most of the adverse effects that are experienced when taking psychostimulants do tend to wear off after a few weeks to a few months. That doesn't mean that the drug is no longer effective. What relapsed symptoms are you experiencing? Adderall XR usually lasts 8-10 hours. You may not be getting enough coverage throughout the entire day. Whenever you take your first dosage eight hours later take a second dosage. Record in a journal how you feel. Self-medication may be frowned upon but it's the only way to see if a drug is reaching its true efficacy. If you still feel that your ADD symptoms are not being assessed by the medication then consult with your psychiatrist. Increasing the dosage seems kosher.

Lastly, dry mouth usually goes away after a while as well.

Good Luck.
