I attended the my first meeting of Dreamworks ; a county sponsored group therapy for drug addicts and alcoholics. I am trying to figure out whether my use of Dexedrine is a necessary dependency I have taken on to treat ADHD or if my reliance upon the drug is addiction. I can't draw any conclusions this early but if I pursue this approach I might learn something about myself that I don't already know.

I avoid most social situations because I fell uncomfortable in groups. However, I must find away to resolve this dilemma if I have any hope of improving my life. My first impressions taken from this assemble reaffirm my belief that I am not a drug addict although I have been treated like one. Those people share many of the same anxieties and emotional diagnosis that I have.

Are you diagnosed as ADHD? Are you being prescribed & monitered for the dexedrine you are taking? Are you taking it as prescribed? Are you open with your therapist about your past drug abuse & the (healthy) fear surrounding taking a stimulant?

If you can answer these questions honestly --- you'll have more of a grasp as to where you are.

It is ok to be nervous about medical treatment, it is ok to receive medical treatment. It is not OK to be deceptive with yourself our your doctor.

Be glad that you have enough self awareness to adknowledge this. And be open enough to recieve the proper treatment you deserve. With a good doctor, and honest dialogue-- you can be treated properly

The answer to all of your questions is a resounding "YES!". The difficulty I now am confronting is a conglomeration of expert opinion that no longer has an resilience. After spending three years under the care of the first psychiatrist I saw, he departing with an apology; exclaiming : "Something went wrong with your treatment?.", I have searched every avenue and exploited every resource I could muster to no avail!
