Hello, all. I posted a few weeks back about starting out on Adderall and how tired it made me. I got mostly responses about how it can do this as it wears off. I have had my dosage increased to 10 mgs twice a day (IR) and I can definitely say that it is a direct effect of the drug that it is making me feel very sleepy. It is NOT REBOUND. When it does wear off-after about 4-5 hours, I finally feel awake and alive, this is my rebound. Do a google search for Adderall + tired and you will see that there are lots of people who have this effect.
I don't know what to do. I told my doc that this tiredness happens and he seemed perplexed but didn't comment further. I would like to know if anyone has had this happen and what they did that actually corrected the problem. I don't want info on Adderall, I know all about the pharmacology of this drug and other ADD drugs. Please respond if this has happened to you or someone you know. Thank you.

How long have you been taking it for? What kind of work do you do when you are on it?
Personally, when I first started taking stimulants, I would get tired almost immediately. Like so tired that I could take a nap. Being tired all the time anyway, I was pretty disappointed. After a few weeks, the tiredness kind of subsided, and I think some of it had to do with the fact that I tried not to look for it. My mind quieted down, that's all.
I still get a little drowsy but I usually make sure I am moving around while it sets in and then I'm good to go. I'm not sure about dosages, but for me, an increase in dosage helped. I increased the dosage, got still sleepier but it subsided after about a week...
Just gotta make sure that when you start to get tired to move around a little and see if that helps. After a while everything kind of evened itself out.
Good luck!

This did happen to me but I only heard about this happening with Adderall XR not IR. What I did was I changed my dose. I was on 20mg and it was too low so I changed it to 30.

I am a 37 yo man and I take Adderall XR 30mg twice a day. It has the same effect on me. I am 256 pounds a that 30mg capsule will make me so tired I have to lay down also. I know it is supposed to bring you down from the hyperactivity but it wipes me out.
i just started on adderall xr. at first i was prescribed 15mg and all it did was make me sleepy. i yawned a lot. then i went up to 20mg and it worked perfectly. no sleepiness... just the normal effects of the medication. it doesn't wind me up, mind you, but the higher dose doesn't make me yawn. i would suggest trying a higher dose. maybe 15mg, twice a day instead.
