I am in month 2 of taking Adderall. I started with XR. seemed to work very well. I had to actively control my mood come 8 oclock at night, but that was worth the focus, calmed mind, and stabilized mood. I did not take it for the last 2 weekends to experience "holidays". I had no feelings of withdraw, but I will not that getting out of bed on saturday morning was just slightly harder than usual. By the last week, the effects seemed diminished. I did not share this with my doctor because I had aprehensions about raising dosage and dependence, addiction bla bla bla.

Now I have IR 10 mg that I'm meant to take twice daily. I have been experimenting with dosage since I can break up the pills. It appears that with low dosages, I am experiencing High anxiety(5 mg twice daily) and even higher anxiety with 2.5 mg twice daily. At my normal 10mg twice daily, I need to find something to distract myself from anxiety after about 3.5-4 hrs, but this anxiety is diminished campared to lower doses. I raised dosage a couple times cutting things off at 40 mg per day and went back to the 20 mg/day when I noticed that the effects only seemed to be more positive as I upped the dose.

Note:by positive I am not refering to euphoria and increasing focus or pleasure relating to executing critical, difficult etc tasks. The positive I'm referring to is more so feeling level-headed, lack of irritability, lack of anxiousness, general calmness that I haven't felt since childhood, and a heightened awareness for taking care of my responsibilities(dishes, laundry, bill paying, taking care of my business' books regularly etc etc.<<(something I simply do not do without help and force from my fiance)

So, does this indicate that I need a higher dose? If so, does the risk for dependency/addiction also rise with taking a higher does? Even if its the optimum theraputic window? Does someone who functions best on 20 mg daily have a lower risk for dependency/addiction?

Does it make any sense to have adverse effects at a lower dosage rather than the drug just not appearing to work? Has anyone else experienced such a thing?

thank you
