I origianlly posted this in the general for medication but it has been 3 days and i havent got a reply so I was hoping someone here can help

Hello I have been diagnosed add since i was 8 years old an have not seriously treated since I a kid. However, I try but I just give up... I am back at the point where I have to treat as my job and daily functions are counting on it to survive. Here is what I am going through.

1. My doctor put me on Ritalin 10 mg and it made me a zombie and lost all focus I had even witout medication I just wanted to lay down. That day when i went out for lunch it was like i was lost even in my everyday surroundings.
2. Then she gave me adderall 20 mg. and was told to take half in the morning. some days it worked good and other days I think maybe it was to much and here is why one day i would take half and feel like it helps me but I still half to push myself just a little to complete or start task. Then that night I cant sleep so i take ove the counter sleeping pills and still strugle. Then the next day a little groggy i take half and I work really well no pushing to get started and focus on my work but a few hours later I feel real slow and hard to look at people when they talk to me like me eyes are really bothered. and i feel like every one can notice that I am being weird. but still even that night i cant sleep. so I am not sure if the medicine is just wearing off a few hours later or if its to much. Plus not mention the worst part which is almost unbearable. I get a headache by the second day that last for days. I even stoped after the third day cause of he headaches and it took 2 days for it to go away.
3. she gave me dexadrine 5 mg and told me to take it 3 times a day. However, I dont feel it helping at all. She told me to take two if 5 didnt work and I did and i still need to push a little but i get really out of breath and the next day when not taking it i feel my hearbeats fast 116 a minute. Now i dont know if thats from drinking coffee and smoking but it is scary.

I really need to figure out what is going to work for me cause I have been slacking at home and work and cant get back in control.... I just dont know if this is normal and i cant keep affording to try new things I was hoping someone would have a similar experience and can tell me what you found worked. I know everyone is diffrent but I thought maybe if someone has had simalar reactions like myself and found something that worked then maybe I could ask my doctor what they thought. Thanks in advance.

Also, yesterday I tried taking 2 dexadrine 5 mg and it really didnt help me focus very much. So today after a big lunch i took a half of a 20mg adderall and it didnt really help either. I am confused on why some days it will work and some days it wont. Somedays i feel like the 10mg of adderall is to much and others feels like it isnt enough. I have to figure out which medication I will do and i am thinking of the adderall... Dexadrine is much smother (side effects) but really doesnt seem to help me with foucusing.

Hmmm....i'm really no expert on this stuff but I'll give you some possible reasons why.

Whats your diet like? If you're drinking alot juice/soda with your medication the acid in it flushes it out faster by decreasing the bioavailability and you're already on a pretty small dose if it's just 5-10mg. Avoid any really high acidic foods like tomatoes for example. Taking an Anti-Acid such as tums would potentialy make your medicine more effective.

Your doseage is pretty small anyways, I was started with Adderall XR 20mg a day and still take it, although im going to ask about taking a 2nd dose later in the day so I dont crash so early and feel fatigued the rest of my day. When you were talking about "I feel real slow and hard to look at people when they talk to me like me eyes are really bothered. and i feel like every one can notice that I am being weird" it's probably because you're crashing/coming down already off the medication. Since you're not taking an exteneded release(XR) medication you're going to have to give yourself a 2nd dose since the initial one is wearing off.

Supplementing Vitamins might also help. I take around 500mg of magnesium a day which helps with the retention of Adderall, along with vitamin b-50 complex once a day, and 1-2 500mg pills of L-Tyrosine, a protein that is a precursor of Dopamine and Norepinephrine(The Neurotransmitters that are affected by Adderall minus Serotonin).

Hope I could be of some help and welcome to the forums!

Thank you so much for your reply I appriciate it. I will definatley try that. I wondered if it was the medicine wearing off but was confused because I had only been taking it for a few days and had a hard time falling asleep. Can it be worn off but have a lingering affect? My doctor gave me ambein but i am really nervous to try taking it.

Usually, I have a hard time with my diet even without medicine. I only eat a half a bagel in the morning and most of the time lunch and no dinner. I snack alot... my biggest meal is lunch when I have it. Do you suggest a time regimin around eating and taking the medicine to make it work correctly. When i take the medicine I try to eat more before because I dont want to get shacky and then lunch it seems like I have to push myself to eat. Its not as bad as when I took adderall xr its just more like reminding myself to eat but I just dont have as big as of a appetiete. Do you suggest anything for the headaches? Thanks again!!!!
