View Full Version : Adderall causing Anemia? Causing POTS / random circulatory things

I was mostly wondering if someone could explain why my hand appears to pool with blood (around this ruptured vein I gave myself a long time ago). The vien did a semi-OK job of healing up, but the day I got it.. is how it looks on Adderall. Is it making my blood thinner? ..I guess I could discontinue sometime and test out asprin and compare the two effects, but maybe someone knows already. I notice myself that my veins get much smaller when I take Adderall, what is the citation and mechanics for this reaction?

I try searching, but I mostly just get "side-effects" -which aren't very useful (there is no side-effect of "the ruptured vein in your right hand will bleed and pool with blood when you take Adderall"); vague, general concerns (like "be careful if you have liver ghosts!"); and my least favorite, neurotransmitter stuff that is the most confusing thing in the world to me (any links of a flowchart or a consolidated list of effects when altered via Adderall would be GREATLY appreciated, btw).

I'm also wondering what effect Adderall would have on someone with POTS -(maybe Adderall can cause POTS?). I get the feeling the blood might be able to flow the wrong way easier with me and maybe that's the cause of the blood pooling.

Also, could Adderall be responsible for the wierd pain on the tops (and rarely on my palm after opening doors) of my hands I've attributed to several, very small Ganglion Cysts (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ganglion_cyst)?

BTW, is it normal for heart rates to be ~15bmp higher when standing Vs. sitting?

I can't answer about the anemia, but in regards to your "BTW," I seem to recall normally "subtle" things cause my heart rate to increase substantially whilst on adderall. This probably sounds ridiculous, but even something like drinking an 8-12 oz bottle of water would increase my heart rate very noticably. not exactly the same as your issue of sitting vs. standing but hopefully of SOME use.

From what I know, no it isn't possible for adderall to do those things.

Just going by how you're posting you seem to be very anxiety ridden about this. Is there any possibility at all that maybe the adderall is causing you to worry about things a little more than normal? When I first took adderall xr I was convinced it was giving me wrinkles. I kept saying "look do you see the wrinkles under my eyes!? They weren't there before and now they are it must be the adderall!" It wasn't even a week into my adderall use yet I somehow was convinced I aged over night (and I am in my early 20's so it was even less likely). Adderall can cause you to blow minor things into bigger things and panic about slight/sometimes non existent problems. If you really think something is physically wrong then you should ask your doctor. My thoughts are leaning more towards the adderall making you a bit more paranoid than usual.

Did you just check your pulse casually and it seemed like it went up? Or did you do it legitimately? (Not trying to discredit your statement, I just know from experience that, for example, if I'm trying to buy some food product at the store, I'll try and figure out which of the products is heaviest, so I get more bang for my buck...but in reality, they both weigh the same, even though one may 'feel' heavier).

I've just never heard of drinking a glass of water being related to an increase in one's heart rate. I'm probably wrong about my assumption though, which I kind of hope I am. =)

Oh definitely, I've known that I am about to die within the next few minutes for several weeks now; I don't let this impare my judgement though. My hand is distincly bleeding internally unless I'm not using Adderall, and my veins never raise (as a reaction to overheating) when on Adderall.

I'm noticing another effect (pertaining to the tilt of my head) that would be explained by Anemia, POTS, etc --which is why I made an inquiring thread here. I may be experiencing diffuse brain swelling due to light damage to blood pathways in my frontal hemisphere brought on by the anemic effects of Adderall (which I can only find a citation for in the back of my hand). This thread explains my experiences with head tilt http://www.addforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=63368.

how do you know you are Anemic? What is your hemoglobin? Hematocrit? serum iron?

ACK! I don't know why I'm saying anemia?!? Probably a side effect death, which I seem to be taking quite ill with.

A vein in my hand is ruptured, it is bleeding internally; hemoraging. There's no anemia (ughh, in the damn title anonone?...)

Perhaps you should ask your doctor for a blood test, something like this:

And see if you have prolonged bleeding time.

Just a suggestion.
