I suppose you could replace Adderall with any type of short term ADHD medication, but I'm just curious if it's possible to have such a fast working metabolism, that one HAS to take dosages every 2-3 hours to get the full benefit of any adhd medication.

Couldn't find anything about it online, so it may just be my mind making up silly scenarios, but maybe there is an article somewhere, that talks about metabolism vs a drug's half-life...

You are on the right track. You absolutely CAN hyper-metabolize and there are people on this forum that take their meds every 2 to 3 hours.

I have little doubt that when training season starts for me I am going to have issues. People who work out regularly have issues as well. Definitely a discussion to have with your doc.

Mmmm, well I hope that's not the case with me, as I've just started working out, which is only going to increase my metabolism from where it's at now >< lol.

I'm a gym rat and I metabolize way too quickly . The only way to slow it down is to eat wendys doubles daily , which is not an option since I'm healthy-

Are your medications (if you take any) affected by your metabolism at all?

It really depends. I prefer to call it a "fast oxidizer," which I am, which means the digestive system works fast enough that food, medicines, etc. can pass through the digestive system before being completely broken down. In that case, the food and medication are not absorbed efficiently, and much of the medication is just passed through as waste. These people also have a hard time getting enough nutrients, even if they eat properly, since the food is gone out of the digestive system before it can be broken down enough to be absorbed.

As far as having a high basal metabolism, that just means you burn energy at a faster rate. I don't know how that would effect the medicine, maybe it is broken down faster and you have a faster onset but it would not seem to effect absorption.

i'm sure having acid reflux doesn't help the absorption situation either.

I recently had a 20mg Adderall IR added to my dosage regimen. I currently take 25mg of xr and felt it was wearing off from noon-2ish. Spoke to my doctor about this and he added the IR for me to take at noon. I ask him why some people can get full coverage, 8 hours or better, and he basically said people respond differently based on metabolism. Since adding the IR "booster" I have noticed a world of difference.
