Has anyone noticed becoming insanely....sexually driven on adderall XR/ IR? I don't have a boyfriend or anything so it certainly isn't very useful..lol No but really it's actually starting to bother me. It gets to a point where I start to become very agitated and I can't think straight. It happens quite often. Is this supposed to happen?

I think it's a hit or a miss on the sex drive issue. It would be interesting if there was any study done to pinpoint the direct cause of how it turns the sex drive of some people up to 11, and others all the way off. It's gotta be some chemical that it's reacting with or not reacting with, but I'm drawing a blank atm. =(

However, I do recall a time when I was on Adderall XR, and my libido was through the roof for a few days. Maybe it's a temporary side effect... How long have you been taking Adderall?

Also, I'm probably breaking some 'guy code' or something :P, but I really prefer the diminished libido that Adderall gives me.

Yep. You are definitely taking Adderall!

You might want to invest in a personal device (PM me if you want to carry that further and want additional information) to manage this. You can also ask your doc if there is something for the side effects that you can add.

If this is the worst thing about taking the Adderall, consider finding a way through it. Side effects are easy. Finding the right drug at the right dosage is much harder.

I also have this side effect, but I'm happy for it. I suffered trauma a long while ago and have had very low libido and difficulties from it. Plus the ADHD on top of that, I was pretty hopeless :P

when i was on strattera, i felt the opposite. I was on adderal xr for a little bit and it was the same, maybe a little better. I'm currrently on adderal IR but now I'm much more like how you are. I don't think my girlfriend is complaining.

p.s. not sure if it affects anything, but without being medicated I probably have a slightly higher sex drive than the average male anyways

Ok so this is still occurring with me. I take it my MAJOR sex drive increase is not something that will go away. Is there anything else I could take to make this not be so extreme? Any meds or something? It is a pretty...distracting side effect to say the least.

Adderall IR instantly and without fail gets my sex drive going, like clockwork automatically kicking in about 20 minutes after taking the pill. I used to try to fight through it, but now I just conceed and relieve myself. The sex drive interferes when I am trying to study and read, but I haven't noticed it interefere with paying attention in class or working with people and other stuff like that.

I don't know exactly what is going on, but I imagine since adderall stimulates dopamine into/at the caudate nucleus (which I think is like a subcortical "primitive" part of your brain associated with reward that "goes crazy" for sex and drugs). I guess one idea is that adderall makes me aroused and seek out visual and physical sexual stimulation, whereas "typically" you are supposed to first be stimulated visually or physically and then become aroused. Obviously that's a huge generalization, but I feel like adderall definitely skews it more toward the former for me.

After you have an orgasm, your brain releases prolactin, which is associated with the 'calming' or sympathetic (in the neural 'fight or flight' sense of the word) feeling. This is why I just relieve myself rather than trying to fight through it, because I know with the 'clear' mind, I can be so much more productive.

I find the automatic sex boost REALLY frustrating. Fortunately, I am in school, so I am able to deal with it and relieve myself, but if I was working 9-5 in an office, that might be very difficult.

Perhaps there is another drug that can simulate the prolactin effects? Who knows...

Another anecdote is that adderall gives me a very rational "get it over with" mentality. I do not necessarily get lonely or pine for physical intimacy. I crave the very basic neural experience of the fantasy and orgasm, then I feel like doing something "more intimacy." So while my sex drive is very predictably boosted by adderall, my interpersonal emotions are pretty muted (I am less "clingy," less thoughts about "gosh I wish I was dating so and so").

I kind of like that it makes me content with being alone or independent.

I also had over-the-top sex drive during the first ten days or so that I started taking Adderall. Fortunately (or... I dunno... sometimes I think maybe not ), my libido returned to its normal state after a while.

I don't know how long you've been taking Adderall, Lacey999. But if it's only been for a short time, then I would think this side-effect should start to normalize very soon.

I think sometimes for males it reverses, though.
For me I have no like, desire to have sex when I'm on Adderall. Like I never have times where I'm like man, I want sommme. Which for all the males you know is definitely not typical for a male!

However, if someone like, well, you know, then I can still get into it, it's just I never find myself drifting into fantasy or wanting unless someone comes on to me -- it's not that I don't want to, it's just it never occurs to me and I never have overwhelming desires on my own to get some.

I think, like most of the side effects that I've experienced, that this increase in sex drive will subside eventually.

I'm not sure of your age or many other things that could be related but this could just be a coincidence.

I think for guys it actually allows us (or at least me) to not think about/get distracted by sex as often as normal. I wouldn't say my sex drive is down, but I definitely don't think about it as much as I did beforehand.

Just wait to see if it goes away, if it doesn't, enjoy it. A lot of girls will never experience a hyperactive sex drive. Now you know what it's like to be a guy :p. If you're going to act on it, just be safe.

Yea I noticed the same for me. I wonder why it causes that? Is adderall suppose to numb your emotions?

I think what you are experiencing is more of a masculine type of sexual drive.

For me I guess, sometimes it affects me that way... like, I go through a phase after the 4th or 5th day maybe, where I could honestly spend an embarrasing portion of the day dealing with it. When I was a kid I took that as a sign that "I should lay off the stims for a while" but, after day 10 I found out that my sexdrive 'went the opposite.' I don't watch TV, and I'm so ADD my eyes glance at EVERY femanine figure, but I try un-glance them and so fourth.

When I'm surfing the net, sometimes I'll come across a website that has flirtatious advertising, and that prettymuch ruins the next 15.. 30 mins and up of my tentively productive day (and if I'm lucky I can get it out of my mind before the prolactin or w/e wears away).

A second factor for guys is that, it's supposed to be.. like.. big. And that's not something Adderall stimulates exactly. I also am not comfortable with the idea of letting things be big for too long cause we risk muscle damage or something (see warning on.. the first drug for ED about "more than 4 hours"), so I'm (we're) actively trying to avoid this habit with monk-like debdication almost.

This reminds me back in my childhood years on ritalin, I remember always getting...uhhh...big (ill use Ananone's term). It was pretty embarrassing, it was uncontrollable and it took very little to set me off. It happened quite frequently in public places like in the mall when i was with my parents, and was particular hard to hide since I always used to wear sweat pants. I would have to run and hide somewhere or sit down and try to cover myself up.

I'm wondering if people experience this heightened 'drive' during the rebound effect once the medication wears off?

Oh man, that reminds me of way back when I was on Ritalin and used to play base ball. I can't imagine a more awkward setting than been the batter, lol. (don't recall dosages times of that stuff from back then though =/ )

I actually found relief from further potential public embarrasment, when I ...umm inadvertently & unintentionally & accidentaly tore a muscle trying to push it down and hide it. Immense pain, and that single muscle has never recovered.

lol I might have to ask mods to delete this post later.....

Adderall IR and Dex IR here, and warning in advance, post may be a bit graphic :p.

When i'm on dose from about hour 1-4 it's quite often a considerable increase in arousal and desire for sex. With it comes the mild but frequent lower "2 boys" deep tingling... and I'm kind of embarrassed to even say that :o! It feels like i'm a pre-teen once again discovering the wonderful height of puberty all over again. The feeling hasn't gone away for the good couple of months i've been taking meds. Same dose, same feeling. It doesn't happen all the time, like when i'm engrossed in something like reading or studying, but when in class, at the gym, or at my apt, the mind will wander :p.

I am not complaining by any means though, I would HATE to have a killed libido on meds.

Holy crapy, you just explained me to a freaking T man. LOL. It's unbelievable that someone goes through the same exact thing. Same thing. I'll be browsing the net, come across a site that has a racy picture, say for instance on some off-topic forum and boom, it just sets things in motion. LOL. That's hilarious.

I'm sure the idea of doing this joke popped into many members minds. I was considering doing a joke like this, but then I saw your signature, and realized I don't know your age (I still don't), and there is a 50/50 chance you're not 18 yet.
