Hi, I'm scripted 20mgs 4x daily, which used to be enought, but after starting 40mgs prozac some months ago, i just don't notice the true benefits at that dose and find myself taking near double (Do SSRIs blunt stims) they are 10mg MPD tabs and i'm running out early usually should i continue with a higher dose of MPD (works well) or see the Doc about an alternative it feels like i'm taking pills all day sometimes:rolleyes:

According to drugs.com, "human pharmacologic studies have shown that methylphenidate may inhibit the metabolism of SSRIs, and there have been reports that methylphenidate augments the clinical response to SSRIs."

But I couldn't find anything to say that Prozac actually blocked the effect of Ritalin.

I know that for amphetamine, Prozac will increase and/or prolong the effect.

But this shouldn't be happening. Definitely talk to the doctor. It may be more of a tolerance issue than anything.

Prozac itself can make people foggy and slow. Also, on the flipside, anxiety can act as a stimulant for ADD'ers, so in the absence of anxiety you need more stimulation.

Two great answers!. the prozac alone was not taking care of things but with the reintroduction of the MPD it has improved moodwise and other issues

:)my therapist suggested to my doc to get me off prozac in his words, they were dumbing me down...not trying to offend any one...just my experience:)

it's hard to say , but actually it does sound more like a tolerance issue. 80mg of ritalin is not that much over time , unfortunately alot of people end up taking much higher doses. I guess it's not that unfortunate, so as long as the medication is dosed high enough after time so that you are still in control of your adhd .

"80mg of ritalin is not that much over time"-it ain't? thou the PI sheet says "doses above 60mg day are noy recommended" whats your advice? it used to put me in that Zone where i felt up to date quick, smart, and right here, right nows ok thyp feeling, it was much sought after, but after 5 years it seems different. who do i get the great almost Opiate-like 'Zone' feeling back?


Do you folk find any difference between BN Ritalin SR20s and generic 20mgs?

NO!!!!!! 80mg is not a heaping dosage. Plenty of adults and high metabolizers that have been on ritalin for over a decade will take out your PI sheet and toss it in the dumpster where it belongs. Its a guideline brother and specialists treat all patients based on results and how they metabolize the medication. If your not getting results from the same dose you need to find an aggressive doctor and titrate the dose up accordingly until the desired outcome is found ,

that or continue to play in the world of having an adhd med not do its job . have fun

prozac is bad, i was depressed when i was younger and so the doc put me on prozac which made me think daft things like looking at things and sayin i could smash my skull or hang myself with that, and just feelin low all the time.

and im currently on 60mg, the pharmacy paniced when it said take 2-3 in the morning, it was a typo im meant to take 2 in the morning and one midday and the doc said if i needed to i could take another one in the afternoon.

its kinda hard as i see the specialist every so often and have to go see the docs to get more tabs as they wont put it on repeat. and tbh all the docs at my clinic have no clue about adhd
