View Full Version : If I were a cartoon character
ADHDTigger 02-20-09, 11:22 AM I was chatting with a friend recently about how AA Milne drew the characters from the Winnie the Pooh books and how they speak to the ADHD subtypes. Tigger is, of course, the Hyperactive/Impulsive type and the one I identify most closely with for a number of reasons- I am Hyperactive/Impulsive and once worked for Disneyland. But the similarities don't end there.
Pooh is very obviously Inattentive. Piglet very obviously has comorbid General Anxiety Disorder. Eeyeore has comorbid depression and Owl is the more definitive OCD. I'm tempted to define Rabbit as Oppositional Defiance but that really doesn't fit. Rabbit is the soul of the left brained- no creative thinking whatsoever. This is the likely reason that Tigger can spin him up so badly. Kanga and Roo are the theoretical "normal" in every way.
While there is no evidence that AA Milne's son Christopher Robin was formally diagnosed with Inattentive ADHD, there is anecdotal evidence that he had it. What is known about Milne is that he had an interest in the science of the mind. Is it possible that he deliberately drew the characters of the 100 Acre Woods to mimic ADHD and its common comorbids? Who's to say?
Taking a broader look, there have been a variety of cartoon characters that clearly display ADHD in its subtypes and comorbids. Which cartoon character would you be and why?
EYEFORGOT 02-20-09, 11:26 AM I don't know if Milne was consciously writing about ADHD and its comorbids, but just the variety of a child/ren's personalities.
From Milne's world, I think I am like Pooh most of the time, but because I'm bipolar, Eyore is easy to relate to. When I'm anxious and needing control I can liken to Rabbit.
From any cartoon ever? My avatar says it all...I'm Dory, easily.
why I don't know, I picture that cat in the pepe le pew cartoons. (who gets the stripe of white paint and is chased by the skunk lol I don't have weirdos chasing me around the office!)
anyway this day has been very busy; I would have that cat's look on my face today.
ADHDTigger 02-20-09, 12:26 PM Ah! I know that look well. We refer to it as the "deer in the headlights" look.
Hopefully your day will return to a level of calm. Have a great weekend!
ADHDKylee 02-20-09, 12:44 PM I'm definetly a Tigger... Or a Thumper from Bambi. When I was little, my nickname was actually Tigger because I was always everywhere :P
I agree with you, Tigs, that Winnie the Pooh Bear definetly does seem to deal with some mental health issues
EYEFORGOT 02-20-09, 12:59 PM There is a book called the "Tao of Pooh". It looks at him philisophically, and his outlook on the world being a rather healthy one.
ADHDTigger 02-20-09, 02:27 PM I may still have a copy of that book. There were a couple of them if I recall.
I have long believed that ADHDers are the "normies" of the world and everyone else is missing a trick. We develop some very interesting world views as a result of how we're wired.

this is definately me ... some days. my boyfriend would attest to the crappy memory lol
ADHDTigger 02-20-09, 06:49 PM If it helps any, chelle, I would bet that your memory and mine are equally crappy! One of our "gifts". On the plus side, there are a lot of things that never seem to make it to long term storage. Life is always a surprise!
ADHDKylee 02-20-09, 08:22 PM Memory.. Ew. I was supposed to fold stuff for my Grandma today and I forgot. There was another long lecture. Haha
ADHDTigger 02-21-09, 10:49 AM Another "gift" of ADHD. A long lecture means that my brain can go on vacation for a few as long as I look like I'm listening.
If people only knew what was going on behind my eyes...
firstdesserts 02-26-09, 03:32 PM To paraphrase Linus: Of all the Charlie Browns in the world, I'm the second Charlie Browniest.
Super Sonic.
Vid explains :D

Can I be a combination of all or most of them?...I'm mostly like Pooh, but cometimes I see that I can be like Piglet, Eeyore, and Tigger

crazycat1990 03-12-09, 07:12 PM Hmm I always wanted to be Bart Simpson cos he's funny and was always misbehaving. Not that I was an angel when I was a kid (or now in fact!) but I only did really bad things occassionally. Plus I always wanted to skateboard but in real life it's harder ans scarier to do the things Bart does on his!
I guess I am like him in some ways though (apart from gender).
My boyfriend is like Dory :D useless memory, bless him! We both think he's quite ADHD too but he hasn't done much about it, and then if I was to say I think he should, he'd probably snap and say that he hasn't got time and is too busy and stuff. Not get really angry, just stressy.
FinallyAnswered 03-12-09, 07:19 PM LOL...I like this thread. I'm a huge fan of "Looney Toons", by far the best cartoons ever made. :D
I would definitely be Wile E. Coyote. Forever chasing the same things over and over, wasting all my resources to do so, beating the crapola out of myself in the process, and never realizing the fruits of my ill-fated labor.
Then wake up the next day.....and do it all over again!
Meep Meep!!
Probably 'Calvin' from Calvin & Hobbes.
I read those cartoons and think to myself; 'Heh, I've done that...'
Logic

~Ødd~Scr~θθball 03-19-09, 07:47 PM If I were a cartoon character character, I'd have to say I'm more like Casper the Friendly ghost. I'm friendly but I seem to alienate others at times without knowing why. Sad but true LOL!!!! and.... :D
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/oddscroobell/3369195208/" title="Casper by Odd~Scroobell, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3639/3369195208_32ba873c16_o.jpg" width="163" height="247" alt="Casper" /></a>
....I am also like my Avatar character :Rodney Copperbottom He's starts things gung~ho, gets discouraged feels like giving up and yet somehow he perseveres and overcomes obstacles and ultimately succeeds. :D:D
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/oddscroobell/3368445621/" title="Rodney Copperbottom 9463 by Odd~Scroobell, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3434/3368445621_32d3b2074f.jpg" width="413" height="293" alt="Rodney Copperbottom 9463" /></a>
Yet I look more like: Strawberry Shortcake!

CrystalShiloh 03-19-09, 07:54 PM There is a book called the "Tao of Pooh". It looks at him philisophically, and his outlook on the world being a rather healthy one.
There is another book by the same author, Benjamin Huff, titled The Te of Piglet. I happen to have both books. In case you're curious, te is the Chinese word for virtue.
Zoom Dude 03-21-09, 03:55 PM Probably 'Calvin' from Calvin & Hobbes.

YES!
Incredibly rich fantasy life that has no connection to reality. Intense ability to focus. Adrenaline junkie. I can so relate.
My favorite strip, almost zen-like in its simplicity:
Panel 1: Calvin is standing at the coffe table intently perfecting his technique with a hammer as he pounds nail after nail into it.
Panel 2: Mom walks in and yells, "CALVIN!!! What are you doing?!?!"
Panel 3: Calvin pauses, seems non-plussed.
Panel 4: Calvin asks, "Is this some kind of trick question?"
ZD
RedSkittles 03-24-09, 03:27 PM In my previouse post i put sonic because hes always really fast and active which a lot of adhd people are like sometimes.
xraylady33 08-27-09, 01:00 PM Smoot tongued..and witty....I am able to resolve any issue phillosophically..it may not be right, but I will argue with you until you give in and I prove my point.....Always kind of course...and sometimes...all you see is my smile...as my tired body dissapears...and then reappears...ever so slowly....
