Hi
<O:p
I got my second RX for Ritalin after a «check-up» with me doctor today . When I got home, I noticed she had prescribed Ritalin SR instead of «plain» Ritalin.
<O:p</O:p

Can anyone please tell me if there's a difference between the 2 and if I have to expect any differences in its effects or changes in my behavior.
<O:p</O:p

PS I'm 33 years old, recently diagnosed mid ADD I have been on Ritalin 2X20mg about 3 weeks now.

Thanks<O:p</O:p

Hello again

After «I googled it »I figured out that the «SR» meant sustained-release.

But I am still curious to get an answer to my 2nd question: From the experience of other users Will I feel any different ? Am I to expect other or different side-effets

Well sustained release means to me that the ritalin is reaching your brain over a longer period of time, so it will be smoother to you.
In Germany "Methylpheni TAD" and "Ritalin Retard" (yes, it is called retard) are the XR versions of Methylphenidate. I tried them both but i have to say that amphetamine based medication is lightyears better for me.

No. Both normal Ritalin and SR are the same drug - methyl-phenidate hydrochloride

The only difference is the delivery mechanism. SR has little beads that dissolve at a controlled rate - giving a consistent release into the blood stream.

Normal Ritalin lasts around 3-4 hours. SR lasts around 7-8, (sometimes 9).
