So, as I stated in a my previous thread "Increased Adult ADHD when I moved overseas (http://www.addforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=64749)" I'm an American living Thailand with self-diagnosed ADHD/ADD.
I went to the hospital and describing my increased symptoms the Thai doctor gave me Rubifen 10mg (*along with Valium, Amitriptyline, and Inderal/Propranolol).
After taking Rubifen once a day after breakfast for five days I haven't noticed anything except now I get irritable easily. But no improvement.
I didn't realize the name 'Rubifen' wasn't 'Ritalin' until I looked it up online to see why I wasn't feeling any affects from the medicine. I discovered that in New Zealand they switched to Rubifen from Ritalin and a lot of people were upset because the Rubifen wasn't doing anything for them or it was making their symptoms worse.
ADHD/ADD is such a rarity here in Thailand that the pharmacies don't stock meds for it and only about 3 doctors in the whole country specialize in it. Is there another place I can get actual Ritalin or way I can have it sent to me from America? I know, probably a dumb question - but you never know what you can learn unless you ask.
And no, flying back to America and seeing a specialist to get diagnosed with ADHD/ADD and getting some meds is not financially fiasable at the moment and may not be for about a year. So I'll be in Thailand or possibly Australia for that time.
*The other meds I'm taking: There was a miscommunication and the doc thought I couldn't 'sleep at all during the night' when I simply said I had trouble 'falling asleep at night' so she gave me Valium. Which I stopped taking after 2 days because I didn't need it. The Amitriptyline at bedtime helped me fall asleep but kept me tired and grumpy after 8.5 hours of sleep so I stopped taking that one as well. I rather have trouble falling asleep and feel good after only 6 hours of sleep than being tired for half the day after 8.5 hours of sleep! And the Inderal/Propranolol is meds to lower blood pressure/heart rate!? but they also use it here (Thailand) to help with depression the doc said. I take that twice a day at 10mg. I feel calmer during the day but that may simply be my mind telling me I'm taking meds so I'm better. :D
