I know adderall can suppress one's appetite, but what about taking my dose (20 mg) right before I actually begin eating my meal? The effects usually take half an hour to kick in, and by then, I'll be done with lunch... Has anyone else tried this, and has it worked?
The reason I ask is because in the past, my meds have barely worked when I take them on a full stomach, and I need to the best sequence for tomorrow, when I get home from work in the afternoon. I'll need to eat lunch but also study for a test on Friday. Any solutions?
eating can change how well the drug is absorbed into your system. I would avoid eating right before or right after you take adderall. Give yourself a couple of hours.
The best thing i've found is to snack with a few little meals during the day. Power bars/Granola bars are wonderful. Packed with calories and theyre so tiny that you can eat one without being hungry!
Try to eat a good breakfast, if youre on adderall during the day, you might skip lunch but try to eat something, then eat a good dinner after you're off of adderall.

I usually wake up and get moving around and take my 20 mg XR after about 30 minutes or so because it takes at least 45 minutes to kick in. I always eat breakfast in the morning maybe 20 minutes after taking my medication. A lite lunch to follow because im not that hungry, and then I pig out for dinner because the medicine is usually out of my system by the evening. I snack throughout the day in between meals because it seems to level out the bad side effects.
Basically: Set yourself a schedule to eat, and although your appetite is supressed, really try to FORCE yourself to eat. It helps a lot. The adderall will work, but maybe not as fast as you want it to
Good Luck = )

P.S. Remember that adderall doesn't control you, but YOU control the adderall.

Sometimes I take my adderall on an empty stomach and sometimes I try to eat first if I have time... it honestly doesn't seem to make much difference for me. Adderall xr works pretty quick for me... I start feeling it within minutes of taking it either way. I really try to force myself to at least eat a little snack or two during the day...usually a yogurt or cereal bar. However, actually eating a full meal on adderall is pretty torturous and almost impossible for me. Yesterday when I got home from class around noon I decided to try to eat a sandwich, I took maybe a few bites over a period of like an hour and couldn't get myself to finish it. But I definitely noticed that if I at least get something in my stomach during the day I don't feel that bad at night... also the adderall seems to be effective for at least a little longer if I eat something.

I actually think mine works better with a little bit of food. I usually eat just one hard boiled egg right before taking my meds and 1/2 hour later they start working.

Also, I wanted to add that if you have any tums around your house, try taking a couple about 20min before the Adderall. Some people say it helps. I take my Prevacid 20 min before and that definitely helps my meds.

My pdoc say with food.
I take it with food too. I didn't know that when you ate was an issue with adderall...I thought it was just more about what you ate that mattered.

I eat a bowl of oatmeal, then I wait about 20 min then pop an antacid wait about 40 min take the adderall. What this does is help you get your morning nutrition taking the antacid help absorb the addy better even if you have food in your stomach. This works best for me.

Ok...I did an experiment this morning and decided to take my meds on an empty stomach. I did everything the same, with the exception of taking my B Complex and Vitamin D (they should be taken with food).
I was right when I said that food helps my medication. Normally the meds kick in within a half hour, but today I took it at 9am and by 10:45 still nothing. I then made myself 1 egg over-easy and 2 sausage. As soon as the food was safely in my stomach, I could feel the meds start to kick in.
So...in conclusion, if you are taking your meds on an empty stomach and you don't think they are working, try taking them with a little food and see if that helps. I would suggest small meals and keep them high protein.
I'm not sure why some people swear that if they take it with food it doesn't work as well. I believe them when they say it, but just so everyone knows that it's not always the case.
