View Full Version : Just took Magnesium Taurate and shortly after Adderall IR -- weird effect

I purchased Magnesium Taurate after reading some recommendations on these forums. However, I do not like the effect it is having on me right now!

I took one 125mg Magnesium Taurate pill, and about 20-30 minutes later, I took a 5mg pill of Adderall IR (yes, that low of a dose has a decent effect on me).

The best way to describe my current state is to compare it to how I felt while formerly taking Adderal XR: one of heightened but more diffuse attentiveness. My eyes feel wide open, but my vision does not feel sharply focused.

Adderall IR USUALLY gives me a sharp narrow focus, but right now I feel a little high and spacey. I feel passive but not necessarily sleepy or tired. For example, right now I could probably do some chores or have a light conversation with someone, but I cannot focus well enough to read an article.

Perhaps my mistake was the timing of taking both Magnesium Taurate and Adderall IR at about the same time? Perhaps the Magnesium Taurate should only be taken right before sleeping?

I recall people emphasizing the need to take certain supplements right before sleeping and after adderall as worn off. I THOUGHT I read that some people take Magnesium Taurate in the AM as well as PM, but perhaps I was mistaken.

Keep in mind that I also just took one pill of Omega 3-6-9 (w/ the Magnesium Taurate and Adderall IR), but Omega is such a common supplement, and the bottle says you can take 2 pills once or twice daily, so I don't think that the Omega is the "culprit" right now.

If you have experience with this, people comment!

Also, I understand that IR and XR are chemically identical and differ only in terms of release. However, when trying XR, I truly felt as though it was a different kind of effect, not only in terms of the duration or timing, but the effect itself.

I am now realizing that I did not consider another variable. Since I was comfortable with taking 5mg of IR in the AM and PM, I assumed that taking 10mg of XR would be more or less identical. Keep in mind that when I first took adderall at the prescribed dose of 10mg IR, I felt completely overloaded and nauseous. Perhaps 10mg of XR is simply too much, just as 10mg of IR was too much initially, and not that the XR is qualitatively any different. In other words, I simply did not interpret the IR to XR dosage 'exchange rate' properly? Thoughts?

Ok, I just read another post saying that Magnesium should be taken 5-6 hours after Adderall. I feel like an idiot! But also relieved to identify my mistake.

The confusing part is that I swear I read that people took Magnesium in the AM, so I assumed that meant that it was ok to interact with Adderall, but perhaps even spacing it more (1-2 hours) would have made a difference.

The magnesium is to normalize the levels of PH in your stomach so the adderall can be absorbed better. You are supposed to take it before you take your adderall. I take it 1 hour before so that I get the full effects of adderall xr and adderall ir. This does NOT help with tolerance in the long run but it does slow it down for a bit. Read more here
