View Full Version : Hyperfocus obsessed while on Adderall - anyone else?
tennuck 03-22-09, 06:29 AM I have noticed that since I started my Adderall a couple of weeks ago, that I am obsessing with hyperfocus and I am actually realizing that I am hyperfocusing, but have great difficulty in breaking myself away from whatever task I am hyperfocussing on.
Maybe I have always been like this, but are now just realizing it because the Adderall is giving me more self-awareness.
I am obsessing about it - heck, I find myself obsessing about a lot of things since I started the Adderall. Again, I have a hunch I was obsessing a lot before, but just wasn't self-aware because of the ADHD. I am even getting obsessed that I might not be ADHD because I am getting Adderall crashes.
Any comments - any simular experiences?
Scarletta 03-22-09, 12:14 PM How much are you taking? That happened to me when I was on both Adderall and Wellbutrin., The combination was too much dopamine for me to handle. I became obsessive and over-focused, anxious, etc.
If you have OCD-type problems, or an obsessional personality in the first place, stimulants are going to exacerbate that.
tlhengel 03-22-09, 07:05 PM Are you having any symptom relief? You don't say whether it's having any positive impact on any other ADD symptoms. I'd say, if the hyperfocus is making your life harder, try another medication. There are many more out there (perhaps Ritalin???) and a different one might be a better fit. The medication is supposed to help you, not hinder. Of course, always discuss this with your doctor.
I agree that your dosage may be too high. Be sure to mention this to your doctor.
This may go away after a while, when i first started i had a similar side effect that went away after a few weeks.

i notice that whenever i start a task, i have to finish it. i guess you can say i am hyperfocusing. it can be the start of a good thing but the only problem is i hate being distracted. adderall 10mgx2, prozac 20mgx1

I posted this very same thing yesterday lol. Yes I am going through the same thing, I believe adderall does cause this being I never did it until I started taking adderall. I am not on too high of a dose either, I am only on 30 mg one time a day.
Yes, it does that to me too. I get that with Dex as well, although it's not as bad as Adderall. On Dex, I can control the hyperfocus a little better. It can make me waste time, but not as much time as I wasted before meds, when I couldn't focus on anything for longer than 2 minutes.
ozchris 03-23-09, 12:33 AM I got this at 25mg of Dex a day.
Reducing to 15-20mg cleared up the problem almost completely.
It's a fine line with dosages, remember that everyone needs different amounts. Some people on 60mg are fine while 25mg is too much for me.
