<HR style="COLOR: #d1d1e1; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #d1d1e1" SIZE=1><!-- / icon and title --><HR style="COLOR: #d1d1e1" SIZE=1><!-- / icon and title --><!-- message -->since i have started taking adderall and prozac a little over a week ago, my appetite is almost gone. i will eat maybe a couple of spoonfuls of food and then may not put any food in my month for 3 or 4 hours later. i don't get sick from the lack of food, just suffer from indigestion a lot. the first time i was put on prozac (around 14 years ago) i had the same effects and lost about 20lbs. in about a month. there were some days i had no energy because i didn't eat for about 2 days and had to force myself to eat to get some energy. all i wanted was coca-cola and sometimes water. i was losing around 5-7lbs. a week. i remember i started taking prozac on a tuesday and by saturday, i lost 5 lbs. i was suffering from low self esteem at the time mainly my ex was telling me i was fat (size 12) so when i lost down to a 8 he treated me like a trophy. matter of fact, my first husband did the same thing to me when i gained weight and after i left him, i talked a dr. friend in prescribing some fastin diet pills and after i lost weight, my ex showing a lot of interest in me again. i know that when i am depressed, i eat. i stopped taking the prozac thinking that i can handle the depression on my own and had to start back after i realize that i couldn't. also, i know that i am obsessed over my body image. right now, i have gained over 20 lbs. mainly because after i quit working, all i did was sit around the house and was bored. at least the job kept me active for 8 to 12 hours. now i take 10mgx2 of adderal and 20mgs of prozac and on my next prescription i will start taking 15mgx2 of adderal and 40 mgs of prozac. the dr. started me out on a low dose of prozac because it's been over a year since i was on it. does anyone know how long the weight loss will last and after taking the meds for a while, will i get some of my appetite back? will my appetite decrease more when the dosage is increased? i want to lose weight but i don't want to look like i'm on crack.

I don't really get that much appetite loss with Adderall, but I think a lot of people do get it back as time goes on and they adjust to the medication. Until then, I give some suggestions for eating here http://www.addforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=65316

It's SOOOOO important to eat on these medications, even if it's a little bit every hour. You have to be very conscious of your food intake and MAKE yourself eat as often as possible. Trust me, the after effects of not eating and taking a stimulant are not pretty!!! One thing in particular is if you go off the stimulant and haven't been eating, you will gain tons of weight. When you don't eat, any tiny bit of nutrition is automatically turned into fat by your body as a saving mechanism. Therefore, when you go off the stimulant and start eating normally again, everything is still being turned into fat, hence the major weight gain. Not to mention how damaging it can be to your organs and your brain if you don't eat.

tlhengel, thank you so much. i really don't want to go through the prozac episode again because it was so brutal. when i talked to the pysc about the fast weight loss, she acted if though it was a good thing. right now all i want is the taste from food, not to eat.

I didn't have any appetite my first few days either. I don't know if it was due to time, or the addition of magnesium and flax oil supplements, but the side effects disappeared within a week.

Some people have had luck with protein shakes. Drinking seems to be a lot easier than eating when you have no appetite. When you get some more food to your brain, you'll be feeling lots better!
