View Full Version : **What is your Adderall IR dosage- how is it affecting you?**
ozmoses 03-24-09, 03:15 PM Hi everyone,
I just started on Adderall IR a couple of weeks ago and haven't noticed anything. Prescribed 10mg 2x day which I know is low. Started taking 20mg 2x day still nothing... any thoughts? I'm not looking for the high, just looking for an improvement in focus, motivation, shift away from negative thinking, etc.
Just want to get an idea of what others are experiencing at what dosages.
Thanks!
Is this your first time on stimulant meds? If not, what were you taking before? Also, some people feel more of an effect if they take Adderall without food.
Scarletta 03-24-09, 07:45 PM That's weird- for amphetamine "virgins," you should definitely feel 40 mg a day. I think that was my starting dose, but I'm at 60 mg IR a day and have been a long time.
You could have some kind of weird natural tolerance to it. Or are you on other meds that could interfere?
Seriously, there's nothing I could think of that would stop a virgin user from getting a buzz off 40 mg Adderall. Not any food, or timing, lack of sleep, or whatever, should stop you from feeling something.
Unless you are on an antipsychotic, like Abilify, or Haldol, those anything that blocks dopamine receptors. They pretty much stop Adderall in its tracks.
So you really feel nothing?
It's possible to have a tolerance to stimulants even if you've never used amphetamines before. If you're a coffee drinker or if you regularly take OCT meds that contain caffeine, you'll have a slight tolerance to stimulants in general. Or if you have a history with weight loss drugs like ephedra.
Scarletta 03-24-09, 08:24 PM Yeah, I suppose anything's possible. But d-amphetamine is so strong it can't compare to caffeine or ephedra. Now if you used to take meth, or do coke, that's a different story.
somuchbetter 03-24-09, 11:41 PM It took me a few weeks to notice any effects from adderall when I first started it. I started it... noticed that my notes were better, I could remember things better but I *never* got that euphoria or even any sort of 'feeling' from it. After a month, I took a break from it for a week, and started it again and when I started it the second time I definitely noticed it. It was weird, I could feel it in my temples!
I think the reason why it didn't affect me the first month was because I used to drink energy drinks before I was diagnosed, and not even that often. I also notice that if I don't eat when I take my adderall, it works a lot quicker and more intense. I don't like to do that, but ya gotta do what you gotta do.
ozmoses 03-25-09, 06:39 PM Actually, a little over a month ago I started on the generic Dexedrine and the first day on 20mg 2x/day I was loving it. Focus, memory, incredible mood boost, motivation, etc. Within 2 days, it stopped working completely.. I doubled the dose and nothing... so I figured, well, maybe it was the wrong med.. so a bit over a week ago I started Adderall IR 10mg 2x day.. nothing... doubled it.. still nothing... I normally take it on an empty stomach... haven't had any caffeine in over a 6 weeks... I'll take citalopram maybe once a week if I start feeling really irritable or depressed...
I just don't want to start having to take heavy doses since I hear that over time it wears off and then the withdrawl is pretty bad..
I will say this, the one thing that I do notice is later in the day, I get really tired... so ultimately there is a crash, but no high..
I'm taking it for legit purposes
Aald4x4 04-02-09, 10:02 PM Just a thought, I know a lot of people on here have had various experiences with different brands of generic adderall IR. I have a bottle of generics from Barr that has been in my drawer for months because I don't even think they work, but the same dosage in a different generic (corepharma) works just fine for me. See what kind you have and maybe try finding different ones. Just an idea.

I couldn't agree more. For me, the Barr brand does absolutely nothing. Target uses the Barr brand; Walgreen's uses CorePharma. I filled my last script at Target because they were giving a $10 gift card with a prescription. I didn't know they used the Barr brand and I didn't think to ask because you figure it would all be the same stuff, but it's not. From now on, I will fill my prescriptions at Walgreens or anyplace that carries the CorePharma brand. BTW....I take 20 mg, 2x per day.
somuchbetter 04-04-09, 07:26 PM That is so odd with the generic brand names working differently. I didn't think there would be a difference either, but I switched it just to see. I started on Barr brand, but I thought I'd see how corepharma would work out. Holy crap, its like I actually have motivation... my irritability is lower also. My only tiff with it is that Barr seems to last longer in my system than the Corepharma. But, that may just be my perception as I am getting more stuff done on the cor ones.
Old School MBD 04-04-09, 07:45 PM Have others said how you are on the new meds?
A friend of mine is anti-pharmaceuticals, but he likes me a lot better medicated.
Sideeffects may include ice cold feet. I solved that problem by getting some "granny socks" that improve leg circulation
(20mg XR)

I am on 30 mg of Adderall IR. I didn't feel anything either until I was on 30mg. I have to add that generic didn't work half as good as barr for me. You may want to find out if you're on generic. I pay twice the price for barr but it works twice as good for me.
Now my experiences are good when I take it. I do have motivation and I am more positive...it helps with my focusing and cutting people off when they talk. I don't quit things when they get boring within 2 seconds. The only real problem I have is when it wears off. I become depressed and tired. It is worse some days more than others. Mostly because I get used to it working for me and then it goes away and I get depressed.

LOL You sound exactly like me!! Everyone was convinced I was "chasing the high" when I said it stopped working right away. It really was just that the pills were so short lived. All I can say again is that generic did NOT do what barr did for me. Also upping my dose didn't hurt either. Generic Adderall for me was just ok. It literally lasted about 2 hours though, and it wasn't very strong.
I have heard several accounts of people stating that the generic doesn't work nearly as well as the name brand for Adderall IR. Does anyone have any guesses as to why this may be? The two should theoretically be identical as they are made from the same active ingredients. I am wondering if the name brand might be worth the extra money for me.

When I asked my doc about the difference between brand name and generic Adderall, he said that by law the generic must have 80% of the active ingredients. Some have that and some have all. He said he's never had a complaint about generics specifically, so he just tries a different medication.
I just read in another post yesterday that Corepharma and Barr are different parts of the same company.
I am currently on the "amphetamine" generic. Does anyone know what pharma co. makes this generic? Can anyone share their experiences with this generic vs. any others or the brand name.
I've only been taking Adderall for less than a week. I started at 2.5mg and now I'm at 5mg. First day I took it, I just felt a buzz in a my head, but it seemed to quickly wear off. I didn't feel much of a buzz after the first day, which is why I'm at 5mg now where I get that buzzed feeling again. But honestly, I still don't feel motivated, organised, and still get bored easily despite the buzz. Is this normal? Shall I try and be patient while I slowly increase my dosage? Thanks
Been on Adderall since diagnosis in mid-January. Current dosage is 25mg XR. Just in the last few days, I feel that my body is finally getting used to the stuff. Been doing well with organization, focus, ability to manage details, etc. Actually, I've been doing VERY well in these areas. The effect for me is suble but the stuff has been a huge help in these areas. My work as really improved.
But I have been struggling with side effects: jaw clenching, eye focus, dry mouth, short of breath. But these are all finally getting better. Still have dry mouth and a little short of breath, but overall doing well. For the dry mouth, I have a bottle of water with me at all times.
