bomborwhack 03-25-09, 04:24 PM After hearing more hype than when Independence Day was released in theaters, alls I can say is bupropion SR is a huge let down! Where is this "boost" everyone talks about?? I'm on day 5, and I haven't noticed anything. If anything, my days are longer and more boring. And "honeymoon high?" Please. More just like lightheaded (but not in a negative way).
My doc put me on this for depression and ADD after an unsuccessful bout with Zoloft. That made me feel like an emotionless zombie, but at least it curbed my OCD symptoms (which coincidentally were the one things I could rely on to make me feel comforted with familiarity). WB just seemed so perfect at knocking out all my symptoms, ADD, depression. anxiety, and mild OCD. I researched it for months with mostly stellar reviews.
Okay, so MAYBE I am a BIT more able to carry a conversation with my coworkers without losing my nerves, but I was really hoping that it would shoot up my motivation and help me enjoy things like how I used to. Or at least have that now-foreign concept of "interest" return in my life.
I called my doc and left a message though to hopefully switch to the brand name. Maybe then I will experience the glory of normalcy which people rave about.

hollywood 03-25-09, 04:43 PM 5 days... Ha, more like 2 months to lift a depression , maybe 3 bro. Trust me wellbutrin will lift you out of a lump if you've fallen into one. You will be on fire after a month or two and feel the zest of life shot back into you like a bullet loaded into a rifles chamber. I'm not telling you wellbutrin is without sides , because it has them and it's not perfect but after 8 weeks or so thats when you may notice that you actually hate your job or can't believe you let ( x, y and z ) actually happen to you, you will eventually have those feelings if wellbutrin begins to work. Because , you see it puts you back in the emotional setting where things starting getting ugly, because thats how depression gets ahold of people that normally aren't depressive , it sneeks up on you and before you know it your stuck in a cycle of repeating the same things and never altering them or attempting to change them , you just complain... Yet, have no fear wellbutrin will surely impact all of this my friend, give it time . I've always used name brand .
bomborwhack 03-25-09, 04:56 PM thanks for the words dude :)
i was actually surprised that my doc pulled me off zoloft after only 4 weeks, considering the 3-6 wk figure they give, and plus i am a bigger guy (skinny, but 6'1/6'2). The deal though i guess is that i was still having SEs from the zoloft, which concerned him.
*sigh*
I'm just used to the ol' adderall days i guess, when you can TELL it's working. the downside is of course that you can also tell when it's NOT working, which can lead to addictive behavior. i am wondering however about a wellb/adderall combo. but as of now i am still just on the generic bupropion which i hear nothing but complaints about.
what is your experience? is there a thread where u described it?
hollywood 03-25-09, 05:41 PM bomb,
I understand what you've been told about addictive behavior, true adhd warrants aggressive treatment though. My doctor gives me ir ritalin and concerta and I never think of abusing them because all I seek is to understand and look , listen and be in tune to my environment. I usually use a math problem to judge if the meds are working. If you can look at the problem, and first of all understand it and then solve it quickly using trial and error you know you have the focus you need for a day. Yes , adderall or ritalin ( concerta) whatever are good with wellbutrin. Also , do not beat yourself up over analyzing if the med is working like comparing it to adderall and thinking thats addictive. Just try and take it easy on the wellbutrin and give it more time it will work for you , but wellbutrin will not give you therapeutic adhd symptom control in doses less than 450 but you would have to titrate up to that level. I think that wellbutrin is a good adjunct to stimulants ( adderall , ritalin) to answer your question, and if your not clear minded and not seeking a rush there is no reason to feel ashamed or think your thinking is addictive for adhd treatment.
ndnbutterfly 03-25-09, 05:52 PM I started on Welbutrin XL in July or Aug. of last year.
It took about 3 weeks before I noticed a difference. But, boy when it kicked in I felt so much better. It completely took away my depression issues and helped mildly with my ADD.
After about 3 months though, I couldn't even tell I was taking anything.
Then in December (I was under ALOT of stress) I had a seizure. I believe the seizure was caused from stress (they called us in and said my Nana wasn't going to make it through the night), not eating (I was at the hospital with Nana all day and all night), and not sleeping (she was scared to sleep, so my mom, aunt, and I stayed up all night with her).
I was in the ICU room with my Nana when I had the seizure, so they took me straight down to the ER.
I went to see my regular doc the following Monday. She didn't seem too concerned, but thought the Welbutrin had lowered my threshold for seizure. So she had me stop taking it.
All I can say is that it worked great from about 3 weeks - 3 months, but then nothing!

it is very tough, and i find myself extremely irritable at work today :( (im sure everyone is noticing). the only other drug that made me irritable like this for add was strattera.
my legs are constantly tapping, which i am assuming is due to the wellb, but i wish that excitement moved up into my brain. i get scared when i think about combining wellb and adderall. mostly because i already suffer from anxiety (mentally and physically, severe social anxiety when i have to speak at meetings, i start pouring sweat and feel about 110 degrees), not to mention constant jaw tension. at least my jaw muscles are like rock hard, but id prefer normalcy :)
but i have to be honest, I was a D-C student in HS, and literally had a 1.0 GPA my first year at a university. i was prescribed adderall, and became a 4.0 student and made the dean's list. something i couldn't fathom in my wildest dreams. but the adderall crashes and effects on my weight and brain seemed to take its toll so i stopped well over a year ago. however my thinking never seemed to recover, even to the levels i had before adderall.
i am currently on 300mg in the morning of bupropion and that's it.

I am glad that you at least had temporary help. have you been on anthing since? you said after three months you couldn't even tell you were taking anything, can you please elaborate? thank you :)
hollywood 03-25-09, 11:29 PM bomb,
wellbutrin can give you some physical anxiety for awhile until you get used to the med , but it will lift you out of depression and at higher dosing combined with stims I believe will give you really good symptom control if you can control the anxiety in the beginning. I do not understand your statement about adderall and why you stopped. You see medication does not have a brain, it cannot tell you to study and read and make use of the med as you did in college. No, bomb....only you can do that and it seems like you were making good use of the medication being that you had good marks. I don't think the adderall caused you damage for clear thinking honestly, you see once on stimulants those of us with adhd become much more aware of the world around us and have a much larger comparison to those times before we were properly medicated. I would hate for you to make a false positive of an emotion based thought. Maybe it was that you now remember or know what its like to think much more clearly and this is why you feel shot going from meds to non stims... Its your choice of course but for myself life would be a disaster without them so I have to augment and strategize as best as I can to become just like everyone else. There is no magic bullet my friend but stims do help equalize the playing field it is up to you to find strategies and be upfront with a good doctor to understand all of this, but I do think wellbutrin and stims can work well with each other. Dont let yourself get too far down the road if your all scattered and seeing the many colors of daily untreated adhd . Its pure hell man, it's like being in a maze with vertigo
01GT281 03-26-09, 12:18 PM I had a bad experience with Wellbutrin XL 150mg for 1 month and 300mg for 1 month. Kept giving me anxiety and/or making it worse which in turn made my concentration worse. It actually made my ADD worse. I found it to be a complete waste of time.
I am not saying though that it doesn't work for some people. On some it's effective as hell but not on me.
Everyone is different and it's impossible to tell if a medication will work for an individual or not.

I almost wouldn't mind anxiety, at least then I could tell it was working :P But like I mentioned in the other thread, I switched to brand name wellb after only 5 days on generic.
The reason i stopped adderall was because i was an irresponsible idiot when it came to dosing. i am almost certain i wouldn't go down that route again if i got another adderall rx, but at the time i just felt like i was wasting away (physically and mentally), and became more anxious and anti social.
i could never tell if my cloudy/confused thinking i experience now is worse than before i took adderall, or only seemingly worse because like you mentioned I now know what it was like to really be able to focus.
so you are on wellb and adderall? how long have you continuously been on the regimen?
kattsqueen 03-27-09, 05:18 PM Is there a reason you cant or wont take stimulant medication?
do you have health concerns or problems that would pre clude you from trying it.
You might possilbly do better on these types of medications.

Wellll, I would honestly love to go back on adderall, but anxiety is a huge problem for me and I feel that if i conquer my depression/anxiety then i could move on to my add? my stress/anxiety has been so bad in the past few months (relatively speaking of course), but it has been to the point to where my jaw is clenching so much of the time and i tend to catch myself "gnawing" my inner cheeks (not to the point of skin breakage or anything though).
honestly i kinda just feel like adderall would make me more anxious...? but now that im on wellb i dont know how it would work, wouldn't the wellb enhance anxiety? (i haven't noticed any while on generic or brand name, only side effect ive experienced was irritability and that was while on the generic).
