I have changed something about my prescriptions every single month. Whether it be changing the med, the dose, the amount of pills etc. I feel like I am annoying my doctor.

I was given adderall and it works but he gave a prescription for ONE pill a day. That doesn't last me more than a few hours. On certain days I end up taking 2 but most of the time I have to take one so it won't run out. I have an appointment this week and I want to ask him to prescribe 2 pills a day. But I feel like he will just put me on another med instead. I never speak up in fear he will say something like "well I have this other pill to give you that may last longer". I DON'T want to swtich meds again..it took long enough to find one that works for me. But if I insist on him giving me more of adderall I will feel like he thinks I am abusing them. I'm so sick of walking on eggshells. I don't even know if it is worth rocking the boat just to ask for 2 pills a day....

Are you bound to this particular doctor for a reason? Perhaps you can switch it up, that really can make such a difference. What is your dose, if you don't mind me asking?

30mg once a day.

I'm not bound to this doctor I would love to switch. It just takes SO long to find another doctor. Right now I have been seeing him long enough where I only have to see him once every 3 months. Switching would mean I have to pay for another initial dr appointment which is always double what the other visits cost. It depends on how this next appointment goes. If I get hassle I have to make a change.

I think (I could be wrong) that the recommended daily dosage is no more than 40mg, so he might have prescribed 1 x day to avoid going off label.

If you can bear with the smaller dose may I suggest breaking the 30mg into two 15mg doses? Take one in the morning, one later in the day?

When I first started using Adderall 15mg was enough to keep me going good. Dunno about your situation though.

Ask your doctor about an XR form. If this is not a viable option for you for whatever reason it is best to be straight up with your doctor. I'm sure if you told him that the one dose of 30mg is only lasting 3-4 hours and you need longer coverage he'd understand. I couldn't see why he wouldn't bump you up. Any doctor prescribing this drug should know that one time dose of IR is not going to cover the patient for the whole day. Inform him of this, I'm sure he'll accomodate you.

I assume this is Adderall XR he gave you? It's supposed to last 8 hours, but it rarely lasts that long for most people. Your doc must have thought it was enough. Next time you see him, tell him you like this medication but 30 mg a day is not enough. Be firm that you don't want to switch meds, you just need more than one dose to cover you for the whole day.

If he gives you a hard time, see a new doctor. I know the process is a pain, but it will be worth it in the end.

No, it is adderall IR he gave me. I have been on xr before. I'll have to see how it goes and just figure out what I'll do when I get there. Doctors are a bigger problem to deal with than the pills half the time.

Since it's IR, have you thought about asking for 2 x 20mg? That might work well for you.

Damn, 30 mg IR only lasts about 4 hours for me. Don't know what your doc was thinking. Always make sure you know exactly what and how much your doctor is prescribing before you leave the office! :)
