anybody know of this combo and if it's effective? I was on wellbutrin but over time felt kind of numb mentally , I hear cymbalta is supposed to be stimulating but great for anxiety. Any word?

Never tried Cymbalta but it is similar in action to Effexor/Pristiq. Effexor (and Pristiq) has some nasty withdrawal symptoms.

Yeah that's what I hear but unfortunately my brain and thought patterns have turned to stress and I have turned from the forward thinking to reactive thinking since working under a very adhd non friendly career for 3 1/2 years. The monotony of fact checking every order and logging every document on excel many times checking thousands of files and thousands of commodities for correct price, checking every product for the correct price and double checking prices from receipts for vendors and corresponding with a fax copy every time has done alot of damage to my thoughts. I have heard of the nasty withdraws it's only my second day on the med so I could stop no and be fine , but the fact remains if I don't change my thoughts and get my brain back healthy thoughts I'll remain in this career...

does anybody know much about this? I know the withdraws are wicked nasty, but they can't kill me right... Anyways I hear this med is really supposed to work well..... Man, any advice would be welcomed, nobody wants to hear about withdraws when starting a med, it's scary but something must be done for my anxiousness... I tried lowering my stim dose but then my adhd is out of control

I'm not entirely certain, but I'll share my experience with cymbalta.

I was extremely angry, constantly. This could have either been due to the medication or myself. I have anxiety, somewhere inbetween social and general with random OCD-like phobias. Maybe it was stress, but I can't be certain.

Cymbalta... Definitely weaker than Lexapro [Escitalopram] as far as seretonin goes.

It is an SNRI;
Serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serotonin-norepinephrine_reuptake_inhibitor)

Wellbutrin is an atypical antidepressant that- Bupropion (INN (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Nonproprietary_Name), previously known as amfebutamone;[/URL] Zyban) acts as a [URL="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norepinephrine_reuptake_inhibitor"]norepinephrine (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bupropion#cite_note-0) and dopamine reuptake inhibitor (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dopamine_reuptake_inhibitor), and nicotinic antagonist (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nicotinic_antagonist).

Since Cymbalta is a bit different in action, [and it definitely didn't make me groggy] it may be a huge help for you, and from what I read while taking the medicine, it only releases a small amount of dopamine.

Unfortunately, as amphetamines act as weak MAO-inhibitors, this is uncharted territory for me [and I'm definitely uncertain in this area as I've never taken an SSRI/SNRI adjunct to the adderall] knowing that I work poorly enough to lose jobs on my current medication dose, without attempting to treat anything else that could [potentially- SSRI's and things that tinker with my seretonin generally don't like me] make me work even slower [plus my doctor is extremely weird and doesn't like to listen to my concerns, and at 5 dollars per visit; I get what I pay for, I suppose] including anxiety, which I've successfully treated with Klonopin [the only Benzodiazepine I've ever been ever to take that didn't knock me out in a therapeutic dose] years ago.

At this time, I haven't really tried to address the anxiety, but I will say that the "incorrect dispensing" my pharmacy encountered trying to read the doctor's writing, [they gave me Dextroamphetamine 15mg instead of Amphetamine/Dextroamphetamine salts combo, which the doctor said he was going to give me an opportunity to try- apparently he did not do this...] had helped me GREATLY with anxiety, so much so that I was actually talking and starting conversations with complete strangers in the store with ease.

The downside, I noticed, to the Dextroamphetamine, was the notable grogginess and clumsiness compared to the Adderall Generic.

However, there were less peripheral side effects for me.

Your employers need to accomodate to your 'Disability' [as of january, 2009- ADD + other symptoms/descriptors made it onto the ADA] within reasonable means.

I had an employer that decided to fire me due to my shortcomings, and because I wasn't some kind of machine, my hours were 'zeroed out'.

Please trust me when I say that Cymbalta withdrawl is nothing [I didn't really notice it] in comparison to Chantix, Lexapro, or any of the benzodiazepines [or nicotine].

Chantix made me sound extremely crazy. In a bad way.

I've been on more antidepressants than I can remember right this second, and all of them made me feel different, a few were bad outright, but again, I've never taken them in conjunction with a stimulant.

Well, everyone's different. That's the key. One person could react differently to a medication, but withdrawing from one is also where differences come in.

You won't die from this withdrawl, Paxil is worse to come off of. I may be contradicting my statement of 'everyone's different' with withdrawl, but some meds are flat out 'weird' as soon as you start taking them, and the 'weirdness' sometimes doesn't go away. Those who've taken Paxil and/or Zoloft unsuccessfully may know what I speak of.

Cymbalta is relatively new, if this is a concern, always consider to see if the benefits outweigh the risks of any medication.

Just remember, don't stop and start this type of stuff suddenly.

Again, it was a walk in the park withdrawing from Cymbalta compared to Chantix [which makes normal folks look like axe murderers] or Lexapro [Insomnia, aggression, apathy] withdrawl.

I was taking 60mg of Cymbalta, over 3 months, when I went to withdrawl.

Lowering the stimulant dose may cause more anxiety because you'll notice your ADD more, and people around you will tend to notice it before you do.

Something your doctor might not be telling you is to take the medication at bedtime [it may keep you up, so make sure you know how it affects your general energy levels and somnolence- ie, can you fall asleep after taking it, ect.] to alleviate any sort of day-time lag, grogginess, or other side-effects, since you'll be giving the body several hours to adjust to the changes in brain-chemistry, without taking yourself to work immediately as you adjust.

Nothing? I guess I'll drop this med.

Hm. I'm surprised a stubborn ADD-er like you didn't google the heck out of it. :P

If you don't stop, remember.......

Selenium and Vitamin B-6 help greatly with anxiety in my experience, I also take amino acid complex [from Hydroxylysine to Tyrosine] at night, this seems to help a lot with general mood and not being anxious.

Lots of fresh food also helps. Green Tea! Fish oil...ect....

Best of luck.

wow very helpful, I've been on the cymbalta for almost two weeks and all I feel is basically numb. My adhd is really basically worse mentally but I don't have much hyperactivity anymore . Not sure what to make of it.
