So my Wellbutrin XL has been helping immensly with my depression, I've been much happier overall and I've had what feels like normal amounts of energy. I've even been laughing a lot, laughing for absolutely no reason at all, and just giggly and happy overall.

Some things do concern me though, when I first take the Wellbutrin XL, it takes around 2 hours to kick in... and when it does I feel like I just took a couple hits out of a bong or off a joint. Anyway the high feeling lasts for about an hour and then it levels off into bliss. But... As the evening hits, I become very irriatable and ****ed off at everyone... I even snap at people and become most unfriendly. Now I was generally irriatable before taking Wellbutrin, but now I'm just plain raged like the incredible hulk when it starts to wear off. Then when it completly wears off I get the brain zaps (electrical shock sensations), not sure if thats still a lingering effect of the Pristiq or what.

Anyway, I do enjoy the Wellbutrin overall, but it's really not improving my concentration any, and my short term memory has really taken a sh*t. I can't even remember what I'm talking about mid sentence sometimes.

So I'm not sure, should I try suggesting taking adderall with it to my psychiatrist?

I'm taking the generic version by Watson Pharmicuticals, I heard generics of the Wellbutrin aren't as good... but I dunno, didn't find anything bad about Watson.

A couple of questions:

1) How long have you been taking it?
2) What dosage?
3) Do you take any other medicine?
4) How long were you on Pristiq, and how long have you been off of it or are you still on it?
5) Do you take it for depression, ADHD, or both?
6) Have you been formally diagnoised with ADHD, do you suspect you have it, or are you interesting in taking Adderall to help with the concentration etc. issues you've been experiencing?

I wasn't completely sure, but it seems like you recently stopped Pristiq (please correctly me if this is wrong!). Pristiq is known for being a b*tch to get off of for many people. Depending on how long ago you stopped it, the brain zaps are likely due to this, as this is quite common when stopping. Some people on Pristiq report zaps even while on it.

As far as generics go, Teva seems to be the one most people have trouble with. I'm on the generic from Global and don't have much trouble with it as far as I can tell. If your insurance/budget are up for it, maybe give the brand a shot? Some have reported greater success with this. If brand is not an option, see if any pharmacies in your area have any other brands of generics. For whatever reason, some people have better results with different generics.

Good luck!

I am on Bupropion XL 300mg, I was on Pristiq 100mg for 3 months and It turned me into the incredible lazy blob... So I weaned myself off it by cutting my pills up and weaning off it over a 4 week period. I've been taking the Wellbutrin since April 13th.

Yeah I took Pristiq for less than a week, and I know where you're coming from. I couldn't take it. Some people swear by it, but it didn't play nice with me. Your brain zaps are very likely caused by weaning off the Pristiq, as this seems to be a common complaint when stopping. I didn't have them when I stopped, but I was only on it a week.

The Wellbutrin will take roughly 6-8 to reach therapeutic dosage. Compared to the other antidepressants I tried, this seems to have the least/most tolerable side effects, though everyone's experience is different and this might not be the case for you. I do not think I've noticed memory issues (or maybe I forgot that I noticed I had memory issue...) but I've heard this is sometimes (but know always!) a complaint.

If you can, really try to stick it out for 6-8 weeks. Honestly, since you are getting off one AD and starting another, you really don't know how the Wellbutrin will work for you until this all gets straightened out. If you don't absolutely need to function 100% over the next few weeks, I'd give Wellbutrin a shot by itself before you start mixing something else in. But, your psychiatrist would definitely be able to answer this better than me. Wellbutrin can cause/amplify anxiety/anger issues, so you might want to mention this at your next appointment too if it continues to be a problem.

Another thing to consider, some people have said the SR version (the one you have to take twice a day) works better from them as far as the moodiness goes towards the end of the day. I do not have any personal experience with this, but something to look into if you want. Maybe someone here can provide some insight.

Good luck!
