I just found this question....and I can't find any other replies, so I must be the first one. I originally found this forum because of my frustrations, but I do want to talk about the positive traits of my ADD husband!

Actually, I think it was his ADD related traits that first attracted me to him. He is very intelligent and can be passionate about issues important to him (and me, too) - such as theology, health care, social issues. Once attracted to a topic, he can read alot and retains information very easily. He always has an opinion and it's usually deeper and more well-thought out and researched than those of other men I knew. He is also very sensitive and has alot of compassion for other people. So....I think his ability to 'hyper-focus' has been a good thing. He also cares very much for me and has done everything to support my own career and graduate education.

I think if we look at the positive aspects, it can help us live with some of the trials. I would like to learn more about how others experience the positive side of ADD in their families.

This is my first post here – I’ve been married for almost a year to a wonderful man with ADD. After reading posts by people who struggled through 10+ years of marriage before diagnosing (and thus dealing with) ADD I am grateful that my husband and I have been able to deal with this from the beginning.

He means well. He’s loyal and sensitive and tries so hard to please me. I must remind myself that he doesn’t wake up in the morning and think “today I will act like I’m 7 and see how long it takes to drive my wife crazy.” I enjoy a challenge, we compliment each other well, he brings out my strengths. On good days I embrace this adventure we’re on together, on bad days I tell myself that we’ve got the rest of our lives together to figure this out. We work in a field where the ADD mind can be a strong asset. He’s a good problem solver and very mechanically inclined. I know this isn’t going to be easy but I’m confident that we’ll do ok.
