I started taking Wellbutrin last Thursday 150mg. I had previously been taking Lexapro for approximately 4 months when I decided to quit because I was gaining so much weight so quickly. Anyway, I started the Wellbutrin and by the end of the first day I began to feel muslce pain. It felt like the day after a particulary hard day at the gym. That last a few days. I also began to feel more irritable and wanted to chop people's head off. Then, on Monday, I experienced hell. Since starting, the first part of the day always felt fine with little side effects. I usually felt the side effect in the afternoon. Well, Monday evening I began to cry like a baby. I was literally sobbing uncontrollably. I was miserable and began to seriously plan to commit suicide. I have never had such intent thoughts before, it was horrible. Thank God I made it to the next day. I finally called my psych this morning because I couldn't take it anymore. I felt 10X more sad and depressed than before I started taking the medicaiton.
Finally, my question! After telling him all this he told me to just quit cold turkey. Is it safe to quit without tapering down or taking it every other day? Is it OK just because I haven't been taking it very long, that I can just stop taking it?

I'm sorry you had a bad experience with Wellbutrin. My DD, now 18, was taking WB about 6 months ago. She started at 150 mg and went up to 300 mg after a month. During the Christmas holidays, she was spending time with friends, sleeping over with people, getting up late, etc. There were lots of days that she didn't take the WB. I usually didn't see her those days, because she was at a friend's house, but she never mentioned feeling bad from missing doses.

sounds more like discontinuation of lexapro more so than anything else. Honestly. I would give it at least 6 weeks.

If you really want to quit, you can just stop taking it. I don't know if you are on the XL, but if you are, do NOT break the pills into smaller pieces to taper. I took it a month and quit cold turkey with no problems. Some people report being slightly more tired, but that's it. Unlike other AD you should be fine just stopping.

I just stopped taking it and feel a hundred times better. I really doubt that it was the discontinuation of the Lexapro. I had already been off the Lexapro for about a week before I started the Wellbutrin. Also, I had taken Lexapro on and off for years without any side effects except weight gain.
I am convinced that the Wellbutrin was the cause of those horrible side effects. I had never felt suicidal before and I know that I should have given it a few more weeks, but how do you wait it out when it makes you feel so bad. And the suicidal thoughts were incredibly frightening!
Now I am just taking the Concerta and nothing else.

I think you did right when the doctor told you to stop the wellbutrin immediately!!
doctors usually know what they are talking about..

I was told by my doc, that if you are bi-polar that your mood can become unstablized on Wellbutrin. There is a high number of cases of ADD and bi-polar co-existing.
