So my daily Concerta 54mg (soon to be 36mg due to sleep issues, I have both according to my pdoc so I can compare) can run out of my system depending on the time of day taking it in the morning 8-12 in the morning to 6-10 in the afternoon. So there's this come down effect at 6-10pm of a mild brain headache when I'm calmed down. Anyone else feel something similar? It makes me WANT to sleep! Well I can't sleep cause right now it's college finals week and I HAVE TO FINISH MY WORK!!! Anyways, yeah I should be scheduling the majority of my work during the day when the Concerta is running. My real problem now more or less is time organization. This is something to address in a week when my finals are over. Anyways any fix to this come down besides a needed caffeine boost!?
So how do I LESSEN the impact of the Concerta wearing off?
I stopped taking Concerta, in favor of standard methylphenidate, partly because of this issue. I still have the come-down problem, but I can time it so that it ends before I need to sleep.
Its not ideal. I basically can't do any work after 6:30-7:00 PM, and this has been something of a hindrance to my studies, since many days I got out of class around 6:00 PM.
Although the severity of my 'come downs' vary a lot(sometimes I don't have them at all), I've never been able to completely figure out why. Eating lunch seems to reduce their severity much of the time.
Unfortunately, the most effective way I've found to prevent or reduce their severity, is to take a smaller dose of methylphenidate for my last dose of the day, so it doesn't wear off as abruptly, and you can't do this with Concerta.

Try adding Ritalin (depending on your Concerta dosage) when it wears off. For an example, I take 18 mg daily and so I add 5 mg Ritalin as needed.
When I do this, the 'come down effect' becomes hardly noticeable and I remain alert enough to finish my work for the day.
