View Full Version : 2 new side effects since starting generic XR
tlhengel 05-03-09, 03:26 PM So far I can say that I have noticed two odd side effects from the generic that I never had with the Shire brand.
*A spotting in my vision and strange flashes of light in my peripheal (sp?) vision. It's worse at times, but I haven't been able to pin-point a pattern or anything in particular that could be causing it.
*At times I feel very unbalanced. It's usually when I'm standing in one spot. I was kneading some dough for a pizza crust yesterday and I kept feeling as though I might just topple over. Like the floor was tilting from underneath me. I've experienced this more mildly a few other times, but I haven't noticed it yet today.
I'd be interested to know if anyone has any theories on why I'm experiencing these sudden side effects or if anyone else is experiencing the same thing.
Oh yeah...one other thing I noticed is that I don't get hungry on Barr's XR like I did Shire's. I would get the intense urge to eat all the time, even though I knew I wasn't hungry. I haven't noticed any urges to eat since I started the generic. I still have enough of an appetite that I'm not going without eating, but it's so nice not to be thinking about food constantly!!!
Just thought I'd share :D
Old School MBD 05-03-09, 04:23 PM I belive your lack of balance and the visuals are related.
Remember that generics will often have different inactive "filler" ingredients. You may be having a reaction to one of thoose.
Something you can try on your next dosage, mabye try skipping your vitamins, (or other stuff not medically nessisary) and see if there is a differance.
And be sure to stay hydrated.

Great suggestion! I'll try that tomorrow. Thanks
anonone 05-04-09, 05:18 PM This is just a guess, I'm far from studied, but you seem to be showing symptoms of a disturbed cerebellum (I guess due to the "fillers," which are in generics to poison the poor my uncle says, lol. I don't know why anyone would want to poison a demograph.)
Sometimes I see a dull white flashes when I've got my eyes closed and am in a completely dark room.
I'm very interested to know about the fillers, as in, what the laws are on decliaring the formulation comprizing the filling. It seems bizzare to me that generics use fillers that cross the blood brain barrier. Isn't that wierd? Which ones do that?

I tried looking this up and found one report that said a disturbed cerebellum could be related to clumsiness. I find that so interesting because I am beyond clutzy. My mom always joked I was an accident waiting to happen. I fall down a lot, drop everything, spill everything, etc. I always just thought it was because I move too fast or that I just don't pay attention. I know I'm pretty spacey, which has gotten tons better since starting the Adderall, but I'm still really clumsy.

I get this a lot too, even before the Adderall. It's really bad if I'm super stressed out. I'm pretty sure it's from my past drug use. I think there's something on wiki about it.
Thanks for the response :D

Floaters? I am PLAGUED by them since starting Dextroamp. Any light background reveals about 8 or so very large specimens. SO annoying...
I've also noticed that when I close my eyes for longer than a typical blink that I see dashing light streaks going in all different directions. They last for a few minutes or so when I go to bed.

I do get a lot of floaters, but that's not what I'm talking about.
The second part sounds more like what I'm experiencing, but I see them during the day. I didn't see any flashes yesterday though.
I was also getting these small, bright spots in my vision. They weren't the tiny ones you see from high blood pressure (got those when I was pregnant and took a hot shower) but more of a white dot the size of a quarter (not a really accurate size description, but you get the point) and they had a bluish edging. It usually accompanied the streaks and flashes. Hopefully it was just a very temporary thing until I adjusted to the fillers.
Stupid fillers anyway :(
Apologies if I am misinformed, but when did the Generic Adderall XR come out? Who makes it? Do you mean generic Dexedrine ER as a substitute for Adderall XR?
tlhengel 05-07-09, 08:21 PM Not Dexedrine. Generic Adderall XR. It came out about mid April and it's manufactured by Barr. All the Walgreens carry it and I believe all the other pharmacies should now too.
Ah, thanks for the news (to me) ... Guess I should have been paying better attention.
anonone 05-09-09, 05:58 PM Two things
1) I forgot to point out that the cerebellum has something to do with vision. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cerebellum#Phylogenetic_and_functional_divisions
I'm not sure if the phenomona we're experiencing has a name / text book paragraph but it may be related to Adderall more so than past drug use (but I couldn't say that for sure, not knowing when you first started seeing it, etc.)
2)

Same here, now that I think about it floaters may have to do with dehydration and get better if you drink loads of water. It could have helped for me.. it's hard to quantify this symptom though.
