View Full Version : Adderall with Pseudoephedrine?
Could Adderall and Pseudoephedrine interact badly? I have finals starting tomorrow...and a nasty cold. I have some Pseudoephedrine left from my last cold (doc prescribed it because it's becoming difficult to get here). I took some today (didn't take Adderall) and it helped my sinuses immensely - but I've heard it has stimulant properties, so I wanted to make sure it is okay to combine the two or if I should take less Adderall or something.
TIA! :D
elizabethbdn 05-04-09, 12:02 AM Hi, I take 20mg of IR 5 times a day and if I need the sudafed I find it makes me a bit tired or a little groggy, everyone is different but my psych does reccomend that if I have to take it that I take the short acting versus the 12 hour dose it comes in. Good Luck with your test.
stillfightin 05-04-09, 12:10 AM Since both are stimulants, it would be best to advise your doctor.

Hiya Tia....glad to see you got prescribed!
I wouldn't mix the two because pseudoephedrine is the precursor for street methamphetamine and Adderall is a mix of amphetamine salts. Instead, I would recommend the Sudafed PE.....the over the counter stuff they sell in the "colds" section. It's not as effective, but it should help some.
It's also in OTC cold medicines like Theraflu and Dayquil, so if you need more than just a decongestant, you can go that route.
Hey...you don't have Swine Flu do you? :p (putting on my mask...just kidding.....I can't find my mask....lol)
TIA means "Thanks in advance" ...ehehehe.
Anywho, to the person who said "advise your doctor.." ...you haven't met my doctor! hehe. Anyway, thanks for the info. I'll take something else instead.
Why is it that I've avoided colds all year, and now...the day before finals, and the week before I go to Ireland...boom, I'm sick. Is that bad luck or what?

Nope...Tia is your name now...I renamed you!
You're going to Ireland next week? Awesome.....kiss the Blarney stone and have a pint at Durty Nellie's for me, will ya? :)

Well, it rhymes with my real name... I suppose it'll do.
Lol, why would I want to pay for the "privilege" to hang upside down way up off the ground in an attempt to kiss a certain stone? All for the "gift of gab"...or, as they say it, to talk a lot of blarney. Ehehehe.
It's a study-abroad thing I'm doing with my Uni, so I'm going to Dublin, Galway, Cork, and our main place is a small-ish town called Thurles (In Co. Tipperary, not too far from Cork) - that's where we settle down and take classes. It's a 3wk trip. I'm soooo excited - I'm the first in my immediate family to even leave the States. :D
Like everyone said, everyone is different. Check with your doctor. You also check

to see if there is a known issue.. but still talk to your doctor.
I am on 30mg XR and I take two Zyrtec Ds currently. One in the morning and one in the afternoon because they've slowly stopped working.. My allergies are THAT bad.
So I'm taking in about 2x this "cetirizine HCl 5 mg/pseudoephedrine HCl 120 mg"
Hope this helps.

That's fantastic, you're going to love Ireland. It's absolutely gorgeous. My ex is from Limerick and my uncle used to own a castle in County Galway (no kidding).
We want pictures!
I've been fighting allergies all spring. I have had a couple of nights where my sinuses caused problems. I asked my pharmacist about using sudafed. He recommended against it. I've been using generic claritin which isn't really a sinus med like sudafed. I have also taken guifenesin (sp?) based sinus medication. It usually is called "non-drying Sinus" or something similar. I've seen it combined with sudafed. It is less a stimulant (I could be wrong, just my assumption). It definitely is less drying than sudefed is. With my dry mouth, this is a big deal.
Anyway, YMMV, check with your doc and pharmacist.
