Well here's the dealio. I have insomnia and I *think* I have ADD. My mind usually wanders around all day all night, which prevents me from falling asleep at night. I can be dead tired but unless my mind is tired it will be difficult to fall asleep.
Is this a normal trait for people who are dx Inattentive ADD?
I keep reading that stim meds can cause insomnia but what about the ADD symptoms themselves

This sounds exactly like me. When my husband is out of town I'm free to stay up until I'm so tired I know I'll fall asleep. That'll routinely be 2 or 3 a.m. If I go to bed "early", I'll lay there with my mind racing until the wee hours. So I might as well stay up.
just be carefull using the word "racing" otherwise Pdocs love to interpret that is bi-polar. "Wandering" is the trigger word with this disorder. Though racing seems more apropriate for me
Yes, there's a strong correlation between ADD and poor sleep.

Thanks, I'll try to remember that. :) I guess a better description would be my thoughts going in endless circles, like a carnival ride I can't get off.

I have no trouble falling asleep but I do have trouble waking up too early and being unable to go back to sleep. I wake up at 4:30 to 5:00 every morning and I simply can't go back to sleep. It seems that, once I wake up, my mind starts working on something and that's the end of my sleep for that night.

I've always been an insomniac, so the fact the stimulant meds keep me up doesn't bother me because I'm used to being up until 2am every night anyway.
I have noticed, though, that once I fall asleep now, I sleep so much harder than I used to. My alarm can go off for 2 hours before I'll wake up. Other people in my house will bang on my door to tell me to turn it off. Before it might've been 15 minutes. I set my alarm this morning to go off at 7, and I woke up 10 til 9. This was after I had 3 separate alarms going off, someone knocking on my door to check if I was awake, and two phone calls.

I have the same problem, taking too getting to sleep then waking up often during the night, it's the worst! but have to say it's only been a few days but I 've been taking Focalin and the one thing that I've noticed is that my sleep is so much better. Just a thought

Insomnia and ADHD can be related--the link between sleeplessness and ADHD is still being studied. Some experts think that lack of sleep can hinder ADHD treatment. You need a good night's sleep so your brain can properly function.
I did a little research and came across these articles about ADHD and Sleep . . .

I hope this helps.

It takes me ages to wind down and go to sleep but once I'm there I could sleep for Australia... getting up in the mornings, uuuuugh!
