View Full Version : cymbalta -to wellbutrin
hollywood 05-04-09, 09:24 AM I was taking cymbalta , I was on it for like almost 3 weeks or so . I was feeling much happier and much less stressed, problem was that when I took it I started to get sleepier and sleepier, all I felt like doing was basically nothing when I took it ...yawn after yawn. Then the next morning would come and I'd feel better but then I would take the cymbalta again and I'd be tired again for hours, it would take 5 hours to subside... I tried to get peoples opinions if it would go away , but my anxiety and self worth started to get bad because I was scared my adhd would get worse ... So I went back to wellbutrin
Kerstin 05-04-09, 10:32 AM Did you try taking it at night?
ADHD Hunter 05-04-09, 10:42 AM My wife takes her meds in the evening also. Possibly lower the dosage?
hollywood 05-04-09, 10:44 AM Nope... I felt really strange when I was talking to some people while I was picking up bartending, it was like I was talking but it wasnt me. My mood was much better but I was so ******* sleepy , the sleepiness lasted quite a while. I've been off it now for only a day, and I've started back on wellbutrin. I honestly was feeling much more relaxed but I didn't feel like doing much, my adhd was improving when I would take my adhd meds in the morning but my dosing schedule had been to take the cymbalta at night. It's only been a day , maybe I should take it tonight eventhough I took the well + my stims and see how it goes. I honestly felt it was kind of helping but I need to pickup new terms and be motivated for perfecting bartending as a side job, so I'm really perplexed on what to do- Maybe I should take it tonight , as I don't think missing one day would be a huge deal? I'm only on 20mg of the cymbalta , I don't think my issue is major , I think it kills my high stress levels. When I'm off my adhd meds , I'm kinda lazy but I try all the time , I think once my brain chemistry normalizes I'm typical type A behavior...perfectionist and it stresses me out , so I believe thats what the cymbalta alleviates, relaxes me. but too much relaxation and I'm off to sleep ...Not a good thing to happen!
hollywood 05-04-09, 10:55 AM I am only on 20mg , and I've only missed one day. Yesterday when I took the wellbutrin instead I operated great. I think if I take it tonight I would not lose the benefit or have to go back to starting up again and going through the side effects... I did take wellbutrin today with my stims but my doctor called and said you can take the two together. I feel good on cymbalta after its worn off but I need to focus like college and perfect this bar thing which is a secondary income job which I'm taking to pay off my credit card. I was actually starting to feel happy on cymbalta and I do realize that if your mood is not good then you could probably not focus too well. Maybe I should take it tonight eventhough I took the wellbutrin? I just can't have it making me sleepy or interfering with my performance while I'm learning new tasks?

hollywood 05-05-09, 08:44 AM hello ? any answers I have stopped the cymbalta for two days and went back to wellbutrin with my stims. I was wondering if anybody knew if cymbalta taken during the day made anybody really sleepy and if there was anything I could do about it? The funny thing is that when I took cymbalta , normally during the workweek , since college I have this feeling like I'm tired or worn out even when I sleep well... Well since taking the cymbalta I would feel sleepy but not drained or tired if that makes sense... If I could correct the sleepy feeling I would be perfect. I think it's the serotonin that actually makes me feel happy , and maybe thats why I feel kind of tired alot of the times because maybe I'm just unhappy , but the sleepiness is an issue. I can operate more accurately tired and just regular adhd than being sleepy... any replies people, be proactive and jump in here.
RecruitDir 05-06-09, 08:14 AM A primary elelemet of Cymbalta is incresing Seratonin. Any drug that does this will cuse drowsiness. WB increases dopamine and noradrenelne, which are the bodies stimulants - therefore it tends to cause more energy, verses the drowsy effect. You have to choose which of the benefits/down-sides are best in your cirumstances. I know for me the thought of being tired or drowsy are awful - I must have an innate aversion - my tenedency is to feel energetic, excitement and be active. That is why I take both the WB and Adderall only. Adderall first, after it's release, then WB to hold everything in place, ... repeat. I can not handle being sedated.

I totally agree with you , but for some reason when I go into work I have gotten into some type of habit of focusing on things that don't matter and putting off all my tasks till the last minute ( classic add) and ignoring everything else.... It's like super hyperfocusing on things that don't matter, in the office the wellbutrin just helps me superfocus sometimes even more, it depends on how long I've been on wellbutrin because honestly I need the antidepressant effects to go into effect and sometimes I find myself obsessing over all the wrong things.... My hope is that cymbalta will calm me down and over time I will get past the drowsiness side effect , it really is a quite awesome medication as when I take it when I'm not feeling the drowsiness I can focus really well, it's just that I'm bartending on the side and I need to learn new and different material. In addition, I was googling cymbalta and weight gain yesterday and found alot of people who say it made them fat! Yet since I'm taking the med for stress relief at a low dose ( 20mg) I don't think this will be an issue, I was a personal trainer in college and am quite a perfectionist with my physique I guess that made me second guess being on cymbalta, but I have heard it's not supposed to cause weight gain in 98% of those who take it short and long term... Googling the results on the web certainly doesn't provide me with much good data.

As you know I have the same hyperfocus/obscess over unimportant bs to the point where I lose track of my initial objective. Does wellbutrin definitely have a negative effect in this area for you. I dont take wb and I have that same problem, I also notice that stimulants can definitely make hyperfocusing worse. Curious because I would like to try to switch to wellbutrin and take the stims only for serious work. Also, I hate when people say this but maybe its just something you gotta really focus on without meds, because I have allways had this problem pre-meds. Keep me posted tho on whether that drowsiness side effect has passed with time on the cymbalta.
hollywood 09-14-09, 11:57 AM willinabox,
Wellbutrin is no sub for adhd stims.. Yeah it's definitely something you have to make efforts to do excluding medication because we naturally think and obsess about stupid stuff so you have to learn natural ways to counter this, many times taking a med is not good for adhd obsessing issues as they interfere with cognition. I think wellbutrin along with adhd stimulant is better than taking one alone.

Man , I never stuck with the cymbalta, I had some good days on it and some blah days on it... Basically I'm fine excluding when I go to work thats when my problem on non stop boredom and thoughtless web searching happen and I think it may be worse with wellbutrin... Blah.. I'm not sure what to do , pump up the wellbutrin dose to 300 or drop that all together and just go back to stims only . I think I was and maybe more productive in general on just my adhd meds..... and for that matter I probably feel better with stims and cymbalta to an extent but I'm not sure how bad it turns me into a unmotivated idiot.
willinabox 09-15-09, 12:47 AM Yeahyeah, thanks for keeping me posted, I threw out the lexapro too, it did absolutely nothing but make me tired, I stopped cold turkey on 10 mg Like a month ago...
Just doing concerta also, went from 36 to 54...works well for work/study...however since more ADHD-I than hyperactive, it kinda makes me quiet/reserved/boring And once I've come down it I'm useless...
Anyways, if u up wb to 300 what's that gonna do for your add ya kno? I thought wb wasn't very effective for add symptoms...I'm curious to know...what if you took the 300 wb and focalin only when you really needed it....or is that what you allready do?
I'm waiting for fri to ask for the wb, tired of side effects of being on stims all day...
hollywood 09-15-09, 08:53 AM willinabox,
wellbutrin and especially 300 will prolong the benefit of concerta , you will be more focused all day long, the NE boost will help with energy and motivation .
