I've read lot of posts in here, and thank everyone, because I've learned lot.

But I'm wondering if anyone here has a son or daughter that was
a teenager when they were diagnosed and started on meds? if so, I'd like to hear about it. My 16 yr old son has not been diagnosed yet., but I'm already thinking about the effects meds will have on him or on his personality. He is an easy going kid, not argumentitve, disruptive or depressed. I worry that meds could have a negative effect on his basic personality.
I would appreciate hearing about others' experiences in this matter.

I actually started meds when I was 11, but the meds should not affect his personality. If they do, something is wrong with those meds, and it is time to try something else. Don't wait to have him tested. I wish I would have been diagnosed sooner.

My son started Ritalin 7 months ago aged 16 years 9 months. I find the medication has a calming effect on him - no negative effect at all. I wish I could get him to take it more regularly (I have another post on here about how he is willing to take it only when it suits him). He causes a lot of friction in the family & I wish I could get him to take his medication seriously.
