I have ADD innattentive. Can any1 tell me how this medication works? Does it do things other than serve as a "happy pill." Because i don't want to be fake happy and ignore my ADD problems due to it. What does it due to your brain? What are its effects?? All of them??

Wellbutrin is an amphetimine derivitive that in similar fashion holds dopamine (DA) and noradrenelne (NA) in their respective synapses longer, which provides ADHD treatment and the drug's stimulant effect (DA and NA are the body's internal stimulants). However, the difference between the two (Adderall and WB) is that WB does not trigger a release of DA and NA, AMP (Adderall) does both, instead WB's theraputuc benefit is only thru it's ablity to retain DA and NA for longer periods, meaning there is more DA and NA avilable in the brain. There are many studies that WB is an effective treatment for ADD/ADHD. Unfortantely, beacuse WB has a building effect, full value may not be realized for several weeks of taking the medicine chronically. AMP/Adderall, has an immediate effect - but also is more abusable because of this, whereas, because WB takes time for maxium benefit, although a stimulant (and antideppressant), it is viewed as being safer in this regard. One could argue that Adderall provides both reuptake and release of DA/NA, and WB only provides the first - however, studies indicate that in individual doses under 60mg, Adderall releases only very little DA or NA and instead is just providing reuptake. In summary, WB (and Adderall) prevent the associated neurotransmitters from being reuptaken, which is the theraputric benefit. It is less abusable due to its building effect and this is why Dr.'s like it - my theory. Both durgs produce some side effects that need to be considered.
